45 dressage colts ready for DSP stallion days with licensing and auction 22 - 25 January

DSP stallion days and licensing

Top prospects

From H2R point of view 8 stallions shows something EXTRA. In the top 3 for this collection is no 68 by Secret / Dancier, 62 Le Formidable / Sir Donnerhall I and 78 Viva Gold / Don Diamond.

Only 6 stallions are not for sale at the subsequent auction.

No 47 - supple and light footed with good activity from behind.

No 48 - strongly build with very nice well marked top line, well balanced up hill mover.

No 50 - same dam sire Lord Loxley as no 49. This boy shows best expression and power of the ground.

No 55 - lots of power and stallion expression for trot and canter, but lets keep an eye on the walk for the licensing.

No 62 - Expressive supple with good power and elasticity.

No 68 - look how this stallion in step 3-4 of the trot push himself up and forward - that´s the way it becomes very interesting. Supple mover in all three gaits with lots of expression.

No 75 - Expressive and supple mover out of the same dam line as Anky van Grunsvens Salinero. (NOT FOR SALE)

No 78 - take look at the angle from behind for each step! This is movements from behind. (NOT FOR SALE)

Nanna Merrald and Blue Hors Zepter ready for international debut together at World Cup Basel

Daniel Bachmann Andersen with Blue Hors Zepter at Danish national Championships 2018 - photo: H2R

The 15-year old Oldenburg gelding Blue Hors Zack/Wolkentanz II is now ready to enter the international scene with Danish Nanna Merrald in the saddle for the World Cup in Basel next weekend.

Blue Hors Zepter is educated and produced by Daniel Bachmann Andersen. They made their international debut back in autumn 2017, and had a great season in 2018 with top placements in both Stuttgart and Frankfurt.

When Daniel left Blue Hors to go independent, Zepter was moved to Helgstrand to get sold, but without success. Zepter returned to Blue Hors and after nearly 1,5 year without doing any competitions Zepter was back for a single international event with Blue Hors rider Cristian Tudela Ruiz in july 2021. At the beginning of 2022 Zepter ones again left Blue Hors, this time to go to Patrik Kittel, but a sale never became reality. In the meantime Kittel competed him successfully for half a year until Zepter again returned to Blue Hors, where he this summer for a few month was schoolmaster for young Kristian Würtz Green.

After Kristian left Blue Hors Nanna took over the ride, and as she has already proven her top skills taking over all the former horses successfully, she will for sure also be ready to show Blue Hors Zepter.

Blue Hors Zepter replaces Atterupgaards Orthilia as she was originally at the entry list for Basel.

48 stallions ready for OLD licensing 12 - 14 January - full live stream at Clipmyhorse

48 selected OLD stallions

This time with video clip of each stallion before the licensing, even though not all stallions are shown in all three gaits, but still enough to give some kind of impression.

Nearly 50% NOT FOR SALE

Many stallion owners are not ready to sell at the auction, whether it is lack of high quality horses in the market and they therefore want to keep them or the often not realistic sales prices at the big auctions, but nearly 50% of the stallions for this 2023 licensing are not offered for sale at the subsequent stallion auction. The exact numbers are 21 stallions only for approval.

Some overall thoughts about offsprings by Global Player, Le Formidable and Viva Gold

When seen some of the young stallions for the approvals by Global Player, they are mostly well moving, medium sized but missing bit more strength for the top line.

KWPN stallion Le Formidable has been showing many sons for the pre-selections and now also for the final approvals, they are definitely very beautiful and well moving, but for most of them a kind of to high carriage of the front, which naturally makes the back as a low and weak spot - might give the future dressage abilities some challenges.

For this collection the sons by Viva Gold are all expressive, well moving, but maybe more like very nice future dressage horses than obvious future breeding stallions.

H2R top favorites for the licensing:

No 72 STANDS OUT 🌟 - look like a Champion top price stallion.

No 70 - powerful uphill build stallion

No 55 - still very young body wise - but supple and expressive.

No 73 - Big stallion showing supple movements

No 41 - very attractive supple mover in size S

No 52 - Lovely expressive stallion (would like to see the hind legs little less active though)

KWPN Dressage Horse of the Year: Kjento

Double World Champion Kjento with Charlotte Fry - photo: Timo Martis

Kjento (Negro out of Zoriana elite pref perst IBOP-dres PROK by Jazz, breeder Ad van Os of Sprang-Capelle), owner Van Olst Horses, was again a sensation at the World Championships for Young Dressage Horses.

Kjento is a son of Negro (who was once Stallion of the Year himself) and this preferent stallion seems to have passed on his own talent to the phenomenal son Kjento. Kjento impressed by the performance test, where he was entered with 90 points and was then a striking appearance in the stallion competition.

With Charlotte Fry, the royal Kjento won gold for the second time at the World Championships for Young Dressage Horses in Ermelo. With a 10 for his trot and a 9.8 for perspective, it turned out that the jury has a lot of confidence in the now eight-year-old KWPN stallion. All this seems just the beginning of an impressive career.

Happy New Year - highlights with Danish team gold and double individual gold for Lottie Fry

Glamourdale and Lottie Fry made Herning as their new “home soil” - everyone loved them. Photo: EQWO.net/Petra Kerschbaum.

True to tradition, end of the year is were we all look back what happened, and time to wish each other a Happy New Year.

It has been a very special year in the name of Danish dressage with "our" team gold medals from this summer's World Championships on home soil.

Goodbye and hello

It´s been a year saying goodbye to top horses in the sport as Atterupgaards Cassidy, Bella Rose and Weihegold OLD. New exciting horses and riders comes up. Lottie Fry made her very own history in 2022 as one of H2R absolute highlights together with Glamourdale. The team around Lottie with Van Olst Horses seems to have an endless row of new Grand Prix prospects coming up, and at the moment Lottie has NINE! Grand Prix horses under saddle. Looking back at the individual podium in Herning - it was pure young ladies - they will definitely also be part of the dressage headlines in 2023.

Will Dalera and Jessica be able to keep Glamourdale and Lottie away from the top of the podium?

Will Germany take another year in the shadow of the competitors?

Will the British team be at the top spot for the Europeans this year?

And where will Denmark be? Still at the podium?

Time will tell and for sure another exciting year to come.

Dreams came true

Cathrine Laudrup-Dufour team World Champion gold and double individual silver winner, runner-up to the World Cup final and individual winner in Aachen, as well as team winner in Aachen puts the year into a few words :

A dream that came true. The biggest gift to Nathalie for many years as a fantastic national coach. Huge experience for Danish dressage - and an honor to stand in the middle of it with my teammates

IDOC - President´s End of the Year Message

Dear members, Dear friends,

Another year has come to an end, and the feeling that we still are in a post-Covid difficult situation is still dominant.

Fortunately, many countries now have the situation under control and the restrictions have been lifted; however, we know that this is not the case to all countries, so we hope that soon we all, without exceptions, can put Covid behind us.

Unfortunately, 2022 brought another very difficult challenge – the Ukraine war –, which has had a very strong impact to many of us. Our wish and hope for 2023 is that this long period of instability and insecurity can come to an end. Despite this situation, we continue to bring out the possible from the impossible. We see many competitions everywhere, the number of starters is increasing week by week and happily, many officials are again busy and traveling across national borders.

Nevertheless, unity is more important than ever. We started now to see a greater proximity and more joining efforts with the other stakeholder clubs aiming to achieve the best results in the sport. Not only in relation to each other but also in relation to the FEI. Many other interested partnerslike the EEF have announced their arrival in the “arena”. We look forward to a higher development of cooperation with the new Chair (Sissy Max-Theurer), and the other officials of the EEF dressage working group.

This year there has been a lot of debate about rule changes and especially changes in officials’ status (from Stars to Levels). At the FEI General Assembly in South Africa it ended with a compromise, in order to harmonize FEIs systems, and still acknowledging the dressage officials status. It was a great joint venture by all the stakeholder clubs, but it should not be necessary to join forces as a united block against the FEI. FEI must be more of a unifying organism, and more service-oriented towards its stakeholders. We (IDOC/and the other Clubs) have the same goals as the FEI and work under the same Code of Conduct and rules, therefore it´s important that our feedback is valued and supported on a daily basis.

IDOC now has a new MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) with FEI, with improvement and acknowledgements in the direction of a higher level of cooperation, which we hope and believe that this will be the key ingredient to success in 2023.

Throughout the year IDOC has been very active and has organized several seminars and educational opportunities for the Officials worldwide. Once again, I would like to take the chance to thank all the people that have made it possible. It is a lot of work, but so important. I would also like to thank the FEI Education Department, Course Directors and BlackHorseOne for their commitment and continuous support of our ideas. BlackHorseOne has been far-sighted and has developed solutionsfor improving Dressage branding and the results software.

In our regions we have had a lot of activity, many officials are deeply involved in their national federations and spend a lot of time helping and trying to develop new ideas and competitions.

One thing has not changed, and that is some of the outer world’s view and some criticism of the sport. There are many critical voices, and these should not be discarded and overlooked.

We must not end up in a situation where we do not find the courage to defend our traditions and sport. Unfortunately, the situation is often polarized, and many are unwilling to participate in a conflicting discussion or other more radical “reprimands” by internet trolls. This is not only in dressage, but a more generalized tendency in todays world (read: the internet). We tend to isolate in smaller groups without having to deal with the outside world. But we should not be afraid, we have nothing to hide. In dressage we strive for perfection or “excellency” - but most horse-people also know, that “excellent” only strikes occasionally…. or at the best once in a lifetime (at least very seldom!) But we keep training and try to improve all the time.

The welfare of the horse must always be paramount, and we must all act like guardians in that respect. We can certainly improve in some areas, and we must always seek to reward good harmony between horse and rider. But the concept of welfare, however, must not end up as a dead-end and act as a stumbling block in discussions in relation to sport progress.

Sometimes one must look back/forward/across the room to find new ways and solutions. We must stay open. Our sport is always described as being conservative: that can be good in a way that we care about our proud traditions and all the knowledge it brings with it, but it can also be conservative in a more negative way: not willing to change or see new possibilities.

The role of IDOC is also taking the lead and help in creating new alliances and understandings that together will ensure an even better future for the sport.

Officials must at any time be educated and supported by the FEI in order to be respected player´s in the sport.

IDOCs goal is to become the most important stakeholder club in the FEI dressage family. Our ambition is to be broadly represented, at all levels, with as many members as possible. We will continue our efforts in the education and intend to involve more and new Officials candidates.

To close, I have one more important thing to say: Thank you for joining the club. Thank you to our board members. Congratulations to the new elected board - the coming year will be exciting.

Thank you to the outgoing members; You have done a fantastic job; all IDOC members are truly grateful and I wish you the best of luck for the future. Finally, and not least, thank you Olivier (Smeets) for many years of hard work as our Secretary. You have been a rock and great support not only for me but for all members. I am sure many of our members have been helped and correctly guided by you, as a true gentleman, good friend and colleague.

Thank you.

I wish you all a peaceful, happy and prosperous New Year 2023.

Uforglemmeligt minde - foto: EQWO.net/Petra Kerschbaum

Danish Warmblood Tørveslettens Titanium RS2 winner of CDI-W Grand Prix Mechelen with Personal Best score with 75,978%

Tørveslettens Titanium RS2 and Marieke van der Putten nailed it today and kept the strong competitors behind. The performance was very accurate without any technical issues and today with superb piaffe and passage tours, super transitions at the letters. For the pirouettes you could wish for a bit more control and only a tiny lack of balance for the final trot diagonal. Personal Best performance 75,978%. (74,565%)

Said that the judges were nothing else but at the same line about todays class. The placements for the winner was 1 - 3 - 4 - 2 - 1, while 2nd placed Everdale with Charlotte Fry was placed 3 - 1 - 2 - 5 - 3.

Everdale and Charlotte Fry showed a strong trot tour for the extensions he becomes bit to high and short in the neck, nice and easy first passage/piaffe/passage tour, bit tense walk tour, 2nd piaffe/passage smooth, super 2 times, nice zigzag, super 1 times, nice pirouettes, smooth into trot and nice diagonal - still trending for the winner score, but the final centerline unfortunately made the difference from winner to 2nd position. Starting the final passage tour in very nice quality but towards X Everdale seems to have the opinion of the final halt and Lottie had to remind him to finish the job.

Hermes entered with kind of big eyes but nevertheless Dinja managed to keep him in line but still with some minor hiccups during their test, but very strong performance from Dinja she showed her stallion the way in both a strong but at the same time also very smooth way.

Top of the Grand Prix

Danish combinations

Blue Hors St. Schufro with Nanna Merrald showed an overall strong performance with a few minor hiccups. For the entering halt St. Schufro makes two steps of trot into the halt. Super light footed and expressive trot tour, nice contact and frame all the way, nice halt with rein back, into the first piaffe he becomes a bit hind the aides and lacking some for forward search for the piaffe itself, 2nd much better and without any issues, strong canter tour without any technical issues with very nice pirouettes.

Comments from Nanna Merrald after today´s test: “I think we showed a very nice test with room for improvement. The entering halt became expensive, bit hind my aides for the first piaffe tour, and extended walk tour where he could show bit more forward search. I was very happy about our canter tour.”

Quel Filou OLD and Anna Zibrandtsen made a very nice World Cup debut today. Super expressive start, well balanced half passes, lost of balance for trot extension at short diagonal and missing a more clear transition to passage at V, passage towards 1st piaffe tour becomes somewhat unbalanced, nice piaffe with good angle, good walk tour, becomes bit short hind for a single change for two times, small unbalance from extended canter toward flying change, quality pirouettes but could be executed a bit more clear at the end. Overall still missing bit more strength for the passage tours to get the constant clear steps from behind. (Placed 12th with 69,913%).

Comments from Anna Zibrandtsen after today´s test: “I´m happy about our test today and also very pleased about our positive development together.”

Last stallion competition in 2022 was yesterday in Ermelo

Danish bred stallion My Blue Hors Santiano (by Sezuan/Blue Hors Romanov, bred by Straight Horse) with Renate van Uytert-van Vliet won their second stallion competition towards the finals taking place at KWPN main stallion licensing

The judges comments about My Blue Hors Santiano:

“This stallion shows good expression under the rider. The walk is active, spacious and has a lot of suppleness. For a higher mark, he could show a bit more open frame 8.5. The trot is nicely uphill with an expressive foreleg and a good impulsion, but he could develop a little more power from the hindleg 8.8. The canter shows a good jump and impulsion. The stallion shows that he can switch gears easily, canters nicely uphill and the hind leg steps well under 9.2.” The harmony and total impression were marked with a 9.0 and 8.9.”

The walk

When watching the competitions you sometimes do not agree about the judging, and for yesterday´s the judges did obviously miss out the top quality of the walk from Nalegro only scoring 8.5 as they comment the walk as a bit hurried. Still the quality of each step was clear and supple searching the riders hand and for sure a clear 9,0!

NEXT AND LAST STALLION COMPETITION IS 3 JANUARY IN EXLOO.

HANN PRESS RELEASE

Verden. This year the Hannoveraner Verband has taken the step of launching a digital form of the Yearbook Stallions. For many years the Yearbook Stallions was the reference book for Hannoveraner breeders. This claim is to be maintained in an extended form and with up-to-date information. The free internet offer at www.hannoveraner.com is intended to support the breeders' decisions.

The first edition of the Yearbook Stallions was published in 1999, based on the dissertation of Dr. Ludwig Christmann. The first Hannoveraner Yearbook Stallions was published with the aim of "summarising all available information on the individual stallions' own and offspring performance in a clear form", according to the foreword at the time. Since 2010, the book has been completed by the part of the stallions that were entered in the Hannoveraner Verband's Stallion Book I for the first time last year, with pedigree, own performance and photo. Further breeding values such as the breeding value for young horse tests or the breeding value for the highest class achieved were also included in the yearbook.

And now the Yearbook Stallions opens a new chapter. The Yearbook Stallions digital is online on the homepage of the Hannoveraner Verband www.hannoveraner.com. On the respective detail pages you can find the basic information as well as the different breeding values, own and offspring successes. And the digital version has one decisive advantage: It is updated daily. Sport and show successes of the stallions and their offspring are automatically entered, and thus the Yearbook Stallions digital always offers the latest status.
