VIDEO - Busy Tuesday at Daniel Bachmann Andersen

Inspirational day

What´s going on out there on an ordinary grey February day?

Tuesday morning H2R was heading towards Jutland to visit Daniel Bachmann Andersen, just to see and feel what´s going on, at his home arena on an ordinary winter day.

I was definitely a busy day as Daniel´s trainer Nathalie zu Sayn Wittgenstein has been teaching from the very first in the morning, and they´ve still got four more horses to do before mid day.

The eyes from the ground

You clearly get the impression of their professional relationship, as it is not like a usual trainer/student lesson, but more like “I have the feeling when I do so, it could be a bit more” tells Daniels, and then Nathalie and Daniel pick up this part for their training session. And as Daniel tells, “there´s no need to ride all exercises for Nathalie, partly because she knows the horses quite well, and knows my plan with each horse, but also that I want to benefit from her eyes on the ground for more of my horses when she is here. Of course we do go more into details with ex. Zippo M.I. and Vayron as I bring both of them for Neumünster this weekend.”

Neumünster this weekend

“Vayron still need more experience at the bigger shows and for Neumünster this weekend he will do the national Grand Prix Tour, while I will bring Zippo M.I. for the World Cup.

Both horses develops very nicely now, and as they both very talented it is of course always fun to bring them for the bigger events.” (Zippo did his first international back in May 2022 and Vayron still only has done two internationals)."

Teaching the pro´s

Nathalie tell that she for both Cathrine Laudrup-Dufour and Daniel Bachmann Andersen is the eyes from the ground and really enjoy the sparring about their training. “I´m definitely not gonna learn them riding, but my job is to help with the details, and maybe give them some other tools to solve a specific problem in the daily training. For me it´s not about one way speak, but very much about knowing each other, and where I can ask them for more, in order to reach not only today´s goal for the training, but for sure also the long term goals” says Nathalie.

Blue Hors "Special Advisor" Jens Meyer with some thoughts about the future from KWPN licensing

Jens Meyer and Martin Klavsen - photo: Blue Hors

Jens Meyer has since 2020 been a part of Blue Hors team in terms of special advisor for among others scouting foals, young horses and young stallions.

PART OF ARTICLE AT HORSE MAGAZINE

One of those foreign sets of eyes belonged to Jens Meyer, although my friend has undergone a sea change since first I met him thirty years ago. Then he was, like his father before him, a loyal Hanoverian breeder, and he went on to establish a powerful stable of top Hanoverian stallions. Like horse breeding itself, Jens has become universal, he advice is sought by breeders and breed societies around the world, and he is contracted to Blue Hors as a special advisor, and roving buyer looking for exciting stallion prospects irrespective of geography and studbook…

What were his impressions of this year’s KWPN show, and this year he had a personal interest, bringing three Glamourdales from Blue Hors to the testing, one out of a full-sister to Kjento.

“I come with another view, for me, it is interesting to see what each stallion is capable of doing, and try to build a bridge from the licensing, to the horse under saddle, and then to the foals. The foal business now is completely different, we don’t have the farmers any more, now it is big studs with really specialised persons who produce foals that they can sell. For me I am very proud, I bought three Glamourdales, three years ago. One is licensed in Westfalia, and one here, so you have the right taste three years ago. What we need for the new generation, that Blue Hors can produce stallions for the breeders to use.”

“What is good here for me is that if the horse is not licensed, he can come again in eight weeks and be tested under saddle. For a commission, they must judge what they see here, but in the end we want a riding horse, and we must look for the construction that works under saddle.  We have seen it in the past where we have had stallions that do not have nice conformation, they were performance test winners, but they get no chance to make no foals, and the stallion must make foals to succeed.

What did you like about the Glamourdales?

“Okay he is the World champion, but what is important for me is that the progeny are really sportive horses. I like how he is able to do this. When he was a young one, it was really interesting to see with this huge canter, could he make it small, and he is able to do it.  With the Hanoverians, we need canter, and if you have a huge canter that can be made small, that it very good, but there are not so many who can do this, that makes Glamourdale very interesting.”

What did you think of the Le Formidables?

“I will wait, I am surprised, he made a medium test, and I am surprised with what he produced on phenotype, and now good foals, I like them. We’ll see what they do under saddle. Right now I am not going out looking for a Le Formidable, but if they can show under saddle, then I am looking. We need stallions that produce phenotype, and for this he makes good, he gives longer legs, a good front leg, and we’ll see what the horse is able to do. Interesting horse.”

We haven’t seen the Toto Jrs yet…

“Tomorrow we’ll know more. He makes not such shiny foals, but the brain is really super, it looks like they will be really sportif horses.”

Why don’t they use any B line in this country?

“I think when we have the right one, it will come, but every country has their own lines, their own ideas in the construction of the horse, but I think in the future the B line will come. When we think now the influence of Vivaldi is very big, especially in Hanover, this is twenty years ago here, so sometimes it needs time to move a line.”

“It is interesting to see that this licensing system works. Last weekend in Amsterdam in the World Cup Grand Prix we had four licensed stallions competing and one – Hermes – won.”

Masser kvalitet under vejs.

Did you pick your favorites from yesterday´s Helgstrand / Schockemöhle stallion show?

Sebastino PS by Secret / Vivaldi - photo: Schockemohle.com

Helgstrand / Schockemöhle stallion show Friday evening

A total of 31 dressage stallions and 11 jumping stallions the program was from 7 pm to 11 pm - 4 hours!

From following the entire evening 4 stallions stood out from breeding, type and movements. Additionally two stallion also went into H2R top list even though they don´t have the most attractive bloodlines - they definitely showed something extra too.

At the very TOP of H2R list is 🌟Sabastino PS🌟 by Secret / Vivaldi, presented by Heiko Klausing. This stallion brings it all. Supple movements, uphill, long legged, expressive, soft long front legs, supple from behind and with now 5 year he still look like a young stallion - this is a real breeding stallion.

Opoque keep on developing under rider Mette Sejbjerg Jensen. He is a very expressive mover and still with top basic gaits, trot, canter and WALK!

Stay Cool another Secret son, beautiful type, super supple from behind in a natural closed frame, lovely trot and canter, and not yet showing a big convincing walk (but still he has just started under saddle).

Viva Vegas by Viva Gold was shown by hand, but still he shows some natural suppleness and expression. Gonna be exciting to watch him under saddle.

Galaxico by Grand Galaxy Win is an expressive mover, uphill with good power from behind. Presented by Mette Sejbjerg Jensen.

About Me by AC/DC - maybe mostly a GREAT sport horse, but definitely interesting to see if he will inherit his outstanding balance and power from behind. .

H2R hot list:

  • Stay Cool by Secret / Don Darius - 2020

  • Galaxico by Grand Galaxy / Samarant - 2020

  • About Me by AC/DC / Estobar NRW - 2018

  • Sebastino PS by Secret / Vivaldi - 2018

  • Opoque by All at Once / Davino V.O.D - 2019

  • Viva Vegas by Viva Gold / Rock Forever - 2020

The stallion show is still not available to watch at the archive, but usually it will be online in a few days.

Se resultatlisten her.

VIDEO - 4 year old Escaneno by Escamillo / Veneno with impressive 2-days performance test

Judges comments:

Very nice swinging trot tour with lots of dynamics well balanced also at the curved lines and in the corners, on both reins very secure with positive attitude, also for the extensions always clear of the ground and nicely through the body. The canter tour is active in a clear three beat with nice uphill tendency, alway through the body over the back also for the transitions back from extensions, the walk from the beginning clear in the rhythm and supple to the riders hand. About the rideability they saw a horse with happy mouth, happy in the work and concentrated about the rider, all the transitions very well balanced, also by the transition from extension with good carriage from behind, also the halts and other transitions were well balanced.

Scoring 9,0 for trot, 8.8 for canter and walk, 9.5 for rideability and 9.2 for general impression = total 9,09.

Hästar och Drömmar in the Teutoburg Forest — Sweden becomes the new Partner Country of Horses & Dreams

Therese Nilshagen (SWE) and Dante Weltino OLD are one of Sweden’s best combinations and a crowd favourite at Horses & Dreams in Hagen a.T.W. (c) Stefan Lafrentz

Press release of 30/01/2023

Horses & Dreams meets Sweden, 19 - 23 April 2023

Hästar och Drömmar in the Teutoburg Forest — Sweden becomes the new Partner Country of Horses & Dreams

Hagen a.T.W. — Traditions are important — especially when it comes to Horses & Dreams! Since 1997, the international equestrian festival has kicked off the eagerly awaited outdoor season in the show calendar, attracting the world's best two- and four-legged athletes to the Teutoburg Forest. Equally important and highly anticipated is the traditional announcement of the partner country. In 2023, the journey goes to the European north, to 'Hästland Sverige' — the horse country Sweden. Not only the national symbol, the bright red Dala horse, testifies to Sweden's love of horses, equestrian sport is hot on the heels of football as the nation's most important sport. One of the oldest warmblood breeds in the world, the Swedish Warmblood, is also at home here.

Top performer Sweden

With a population of only 9 million people, Sweden manages to have top riders in all disciplines and also breed world-class horses. Stars like Henrik von Eckermann, Rolf-Goran Bengtsson, Patrik Kittel or Therese Nilshagen are regulars on the starting lists at Horses & Dreams. Dressage rider and Olympic participant Nilshagen is extremely proud that her home country has been chosen and has already marked Horses & Dreams meets Sweden in her calendar: "Sweden has a lot to offer in terms of culture, tradition and culinary delights and I am sure it will be a huge success. Besides, Hagen is one of the most important shows of the year. I'm really looking forward to it!"

Setting the course

From 19 to 23 April 2023, Hof Kasselmann will once again offer international show jumping and dressage up to four-star level. It is also tradition that Hagen is the opening leg for well-known series such as the BEMER Riders Tour, the Louisdor-Prize and the NÜRNBERGER BURG-POKAL. This is where the course is set for the equestrian season! Last year, for example, Sönke Rothenberger's future hope Fendi caused a sensation when he won the Hagen qualifier for the Louisdor-Prize and recommended himself as top favourite for the final. Janne Friederike MeyerZimmermann won the Grand Prix of the Deutsche Kreditbank AG with Messi van't Ruytershof only 11 weeks after the birth of her son, which was also the first competition of the BEMER Riders Tour. Today she leads the ranking and has very good prospects of winning the title, 'Rider of the Year' at the upcoming Final in Neumünster.

Transparency in equestrian sport

Hardly any other show allows the spectators to be part of the action as much as Horses & Dreams. Keeping the sport transparent is a major priority for the hosts Ullrich and Francois Kasselmann. Visitors can enjoy the sport up close across the entire grounds. You don't have to be a horse lover to get your money's worth here, because Horses & Dreams is much more than just a top-class horse show. In addition to the sport, visitors can expect a great entertainment programme, a large exhibitor and sales area covering lifestyle, art and equestrian sports, as well as a spectacular gala show. After camels, sled dogs, Arabian horses and fire riders have delivered goose bumps in the past years, we are excited to see how the partner country Sweden will be staged!

Advance booking for Horses & Dreams meets Sweden will start soon. You can find out more at https://horses-and-dreams.de/

St. Emilion, Escaneno and Damaschino highlights at Klosterhof Medingen stallion show today

Sunday afternoon with stallion show live from Klosterhof Medingen in packed arena.

The two 4 year old stallions Escaneno by Escamillo / Veneno and St. Emilion by Suarez / Dante Weltino were the highlights together with the now 7 year old Damaschino by Danone / Fidertanz.

Escaneno was presented by his daily rider Hannah Laser and unfortunately he looked pretty naughty for several times taking off against the riders hand. St. Emilion was also presented by Hannah Laser and looked very nice in all three paces. Three very young foals from the first crop by St. Emilion were also presented - all three were very expressive and very well moving. Super exciting to follow his offspring for the future.

St. Emilion is ready for the 2-days stallion performance test Monday and Tuesday at Münster-Handorf.

Damaschino has developed nicely and he is a real proper dressage stallion out of strong HANN bloodlines.

The stallion show is available at the archive at Clipmyhorse.

Van Liere wins Amsterdam; Werth moves to top of leaderboard

The Netherlands’ Dinja van Liere won today’s eighth leg of the FEI Dressage World Cup™ 2022/2023 Western European League on home ground in Amsterdam (NED) partnering her double-bronze-medal-winning ride from last summer’s ECCO FEI World Championships, the stallion Hermes NOP.

However it is five-time World Cup champion and longtime legend, the extraordinary German star Isabell Werth, who has moved into pole position on the leaderboard going into the closing stages of this hard-fought 11-leg series.

Werth set today’s target with a sparkling performance from the 17-year-old Emilio for a score of 86.595. But to the delight of the home crowd, van Liere and Hermes bettered that when putting the winning score of 87.055 on the board when last to go. It was the second victory of the season for this pair who also came out on top in Mechelen (BEL) in December.

"I’m really happy, yesterday he was already great and today again he was really on fire! I’m so proud, he’s getting better and better. The crowd was fantastic today and it really made me emotional!"

Dinja van Liere (NED)

Starters

The 15-strong field of starters included World double-gold medallist Lottie Fry from Great Britain who, partnering the 12-year-old Lars van Hoenderheide who was competing in only his third international competition, posted a mark of 78.335 in the early stages. Dutchman and 2016 series champion Hans Peter Minderhoud then moved the target score up to 81.970 with a test filled with energy from Glock’s Dream Boy, but it was Sweden’s Patrik Kittel who led the way at the halfway stage with Touchdown.

The light-moving 11-year-old gelding showed super-soft passage, and - in  classic Kittel style - the three-time Olympic rider and showman extraordinaire whipped the crowd into a frenzy of excitement with his final line of extended trot that was greeted with wild applause. When 82.645 went up on the board he went out in front, although there was still a long way to go.

Wide open

Werth blew the competition wide open when rocketing out in front when third into the arena after the break, posting 86.595 for a lovely test with Emilio. The 17-year-old gelding has been showing superb form of late, and he seemed to have an extra air of authority and confidence about his work today, demonstrating fantastic piaffe/passage as he strutted his way to the top of the scoreboard with four more still to go.

Next in, fellow-German Ingrid Klimke then produced a fearless performance from Franziskus FRH that ended with one-handed extended trot to the delight of the spectators for a mark of 84.960, before Denmark’s Nanna Skodborg Merrald and Blue Hors Zack edged them down the order.

Zack has always been super-consistent throughout his career with both Skodborg Merrald and his former rider Daniel Bachmann Andersen, and at 19 years of age continues to deliver his work with the greatest of ease including fabulous passage and canter pirouettes.

The successful stallion looked rightly satisfied as he swaggered out of the ring after putting 85.220 on the board - a combination-best score and a personal-best for Skodborg Merrald whose smile was as wide as an ocean. Van Liere and Hermes would alter the scoreboard one more time however.

More settled

When the Dutch pair won yesterday’s Grand Prix, Hermes was much more settled. Today the 32-year-old rider had a different horse on her hands. Hermes was strong and sensitive at the beginning of the test, but after relaxing into the loveliest extended walk he seemed to recover his focus.

After the judges awarded them the winning score of 87.055, Van Liere said,

"he was very on fire today and very powerful, but it was power I could manage well enough to ride a nice test without making any big mistakes!"

Dinja van Liere (NED)

“Yesterday he was really relaxed but today was a lot more crowds and he felt the difference. But now I can manage him better and better”, she pointed out.

As every rider knows, there’s nothing quite like a home win, even if there is a lot of pressure. Their great performances at last summer’s World Championship ensured there was plenty of that for van Liere and Hermes today.

Expected

“The crowd expected a lot but it worked out well and it was really cool at the end. The spectators were so enthusiastic and so crazy! It is so cool to ride here at Jumping Amsterdam! ”, she added.

Second-placed Werth said that the close result made for super competition and a great atmosphere. “I’m completely happy with Emilio, and to be back again in Amsterdam is a pleasure, the public and the atmosphere were fantastic.
Emilio is in a really good form, since last autumn in Lyon and then Frankfurt where he was great - I’m delighted with him!”, she pointed out.

Third-place Skodborg Merrard was really pleased with her result too. “I didn’t expect it when I saw the line-up here, my horse really surprised me - he’s 19 years old but still so fit and ready to compete!”, she said of the brilliant Blue Hors Zack.
Paul Riemens, Chairman of the Organising Committee for Jumping Amsterdam, was a happy man today. “It’s very special to be here. It’s been tough for the last few years, but seeing the faces of the winners and the faces of the crowd today is the payback for the bad years. I’m really proud to be here, so many people behind the scene have worked so hard to make this possible”, he said.

On the horizon

With the Longines FEI Dressage World Cup™ Final 2023 in Omaha (USA) in April now looming large on the horizon, the battle for one of the nine places available to athletes in the Western European League is really hotting up. But having moved to the very top of the standings after today’s competition, five-time champion Isabell Werth has easily booked her place at what will be her 20th Final.

With three more qualifiers left to run, at Neumünster (GER) and Gothenburg (SWE) in February and ’s-Hertogenbosch (NED) in March, there is still plenty of time for others to bid for a place, but as it stands this evening Werth is well out in front followed by compatriots Ingrid Klimke and Benjamin Werndl in second and third while van Liere has moved into fourth ahead of Skodborg Merrald in fifth place. Patrik Kittel lies sixth, The Netherlands’ Thamar Zweistra lies seventh, Morgan Barbancon from France is in eighth place and The Netherland’s Emmelie Scholtens and Germany’s Helen Langehanenberg share ninth spot.

Round nine at Neumünster will take place in three weeks’ time, on 19 February.
