FEI President welcomes speedy decision on rescheduled Tokyo 2020 dates

The FEI President has welcomed the announcement of the new dates for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, which will run from 23 July to 8 August, and for the Paralympic Games from 24 August until 5 September 2021.

“While it was of course demoralising for everyone that the Games had to be postponed from their original dates in 2020, the decision was absolutely right in the current terrible global pandemic, but it is really good to have the new dates agreed so soon”, Ingmar De Vos said.

“The decision was taken in full consultation with all the International Federations, including the FEI, and we all had the opportunity to voice our opinions. Now, once the Covid-19 crisis is over, our athletes across both Games can get their training back on track with confidence, knowing exactly when they and their horse need to be at their peak.

“We are conscious of the fact that this has been a very complex decision for the IOC to make, with multiple factors to be taken into consideration. The athletes’ health and well-being across both Games, not just for equestrian sport, has to be the top priority, and we have all the protocols in place to protect our athletes – both human and equine – and help them to optimise their performance in the challenging climate we can expect in Tokyo.

“Of course there will be an impact on the international Calendar across all sports, and from an FEI perspective this includes four major European Championships, but we are already looking at ways we can minimise that impact. The remit for our discipline-specific task forces that are evaluating the impact of Covid-19 on the 2020 Calendar has now been expanded to cover 2021. Now we have confirmed dates for both the Olympic and Paralympic Games, we need to explore possible alternatives for a number of major FEI Events, notably the European Championships in Jumping, Dressage and Para Dressage in Budapest, and the European Eventing Championships in Haras du Pin, France. This process will be started immediately.”

The five-discipline European Championships in Budapest (HUN) which also include Driving and Vaulting, are currently due to run from 23-30 August 2021, and the Eventing Championships in Haras du Pin (FRA) from 11-15 August.

“We need to also look at deadlines for obtaining minimum eligibility requirements and extending the deadline for registration of ownership for Olympic horses and will announce those as soon as possible, but we have had confirmation from both the IOC and IPC that National Olympic and Paralympic Committees which have been allocated Olympic or Paralympic quota places will retain them despite the postponement of the Games to next year.”

Samsam x Laurenz x May Sherif.

Samsam x Laurenz x May Sherif.

1990 - 2 hopper: Nelly e. May Sherif og Sabina e.

Nem ifoling men svær reproduktionsvinter

I alt 9 føl i 2020

Vi forventer fortsat disse 7 føl i 2020:

  • Franklin/Sezuan/Sunny Boy Mor Swan Lightfoot

  • Lord Europe/Landtinus/Samsam - Mor Le ann Lightfoot

  • D´avie/Sir Donnerhall II/Samsam - Mor Sansa Lightfoot

  • Franklin/Landtinus/Onassis - Mor Lima Lightfoot

  • Janeiro Platinium/Michellino/Victory - Mor Skovsmoses Santa

  • Kremlin/Sir Donnerhall II/Landtinus - Mor Seneca Lightfoot

  • D´avie/Onassis/Michellino - Mor Okima Lightfoot

  • Franklin/Samsam/Laurenz (hingsteføl) Mor Shania Lightfoot (foto øverst i nyheden)

Francisca.jpg

og to helsøskende til Bronzemedaljehoppen.

Florida .jpg

D´avie, Janeiro Platinium, Danciero, Lord Europa, Knock Out, Dynamic Dream.

VIDEO - Blue Hors with first "live stream" stallion show during conoravirus lockdown

Successful stallion presentation from Danish stud Blue Hors

Even though it was a pre captured Open House from Blue Hors, it was a really good way to show their stallion collection for the breeders.

Welcome by director of Blue Hors Ole Magnus Petersen and breeding manager Martin Klavsen. The stallions were presented by video, while Martin Klavsen was explaining about each stallion, their pedigree, level of education and highlights of offsprings, and additionally the daily rider was telling about “her/his” stallion, the temperament, working ethics and abilities.

Due to cancellation of the Olympics Blue Hors Zack is from Monday available via fresh semen.

At the archive at Clipmyhorse you will find the entire Open House with English speak. Here below the video with Danish speak.

As KWPN already scheduled their observation dates for this years World Championships for Young Horses, they will now due to the coronavirus instead of bringing the horses and riders together, need to have video of each combination as a part of their first selection, originally scheduled April 20-21.

The total numbers of combinations for each year will be 20

Normally only 12 combinations will be selected for the final observation, but due to the circumstances this year 20 combinations from each year will be named for the final selection, which will take place in Ermelo June 15-16.

Final training for the selected combinations will be July 24 in Ermelo.

Danish dressage reactions about the postponed Olympics

Today´s news about the postponed Tokyo Olympics was just a matter of time before it was released, and for the Danish top athletes, the national team coach and everyone around some of the possible Olympic combinations were fully agreed about the fact that this years Olympics had to be cancelled.

Danish national coach Nathalie zu Sayn-Wittgenstein just stated: “This was the absolute correct decision, no reason to keep the date, nor for the athletes or the organisers, and all the people involved around the Olympics. It is of course a pity as we’ve already shown our strength with our top combinations, but said that we have a young team with young horses, and from now on it´s about the next mark in the calendar towards 2021 Tokyo Olympics, but first we have to get rid of the coronavirus - so stay home!,” says Nathalie zu Sayn-Wittgenstein.

Non of the Danish top riders were surprised about the postponement of the Olympics, for long time top combination Cathrine Dufour with Atterupgaards Cassidy, this postponement is most likely a definite farewell to the Olympics for Cassidy, as he will turn 18 next year, and instead his top quality successor Bohemian (in 2021 he will be 11 year old) will be the number one choice for Dufour.

For Daniel Bachmann Andersen Blue Hors Zack will turn 17 next year, and at that time he might be enjoying his well deserved retirement just doing his breeding duties. With Blue Hors Zepter going into his 13 year, and as Daniel tells, “we’ve had a short season so far, due to Zepter recovering from an injury last season. Zepter has fully recovered now, and for me personally this postponement is of course super annoying, but trying to get the best out of the situation, I will just continue my training, and now being able to try some different ways/training routines in order to maintain and strengthen Zepter bringing him even safer on the other side of his “teenager problems”.

Carina Cassøe Krüth with her now just 9 year old Heiline´s Danciera showed their top qualities lately at CDI5 at home soil in Herning, and of course the Olympics 2020 was one of the big goals and still is, just postponed now to 2021. “Of course I will just continue my work together with “Danse” and my other horses, and hopefully I will also have the next GP horse ready within the next year,” says Carina.

Former Danish team member Anna Kasprzak feels very sorry for all her colleagues been working their butts off in order to reach their Olympic dream. “For the Danish team we have at the moment so many exciting young top talented horses for the future, and hopefully those horse and rider combinations will continue their work together and stay fit, and then Denmark will be even stronger next year. For my own part this postponement fits even better, and I will of course do my best the next year to be part of the final selection for Tokyo Olympics 2021”, tells Anna Kasprzak.

FEI Update - 20 March 2020 - Message from the FEI President & Covid-19 FAQ

Message from the FEI President

Dear friends, members and the greater equestrian community,

First and foremost, I hope you are all well and that you and your loved ones are safe.

We are facing an extraordinary situation with the Covid-19 pandemic, and we have all had to adapt both our personal and our working lives in order to play our role in protecting the health and welfare of our nations. This is our collective responsibility and it must be a priority, but it does come at a cost.

Like all industries, the equestrian sporting world has effectively shut down and many of our members are feeling the impact and the related financial strain as a consequence of the restrictions imposed at national level in countries impacted by the virus. All of this is extremely challenging and I want to reiterate our commitment and our determination to help in any way we can to minimise the effects on each and every individual and organisation in our community.

For athletes, your support teams and the nations aiming for Tokyo 2020, this is also extremely challenging as your meticulously planned preparation and training will have to be adapted and modified. I fully appreciate that the uncertainty about the Olympic and Paralympic Games is frustrating, but the FEI is proactively looking at all the measures that will need to be taken in order to guarantee you are given fair and equal opportunities to reach your goals, whilst ensuring that your health and wellbeing always comes first.

We are fortunate that we have completed our Olympic and Paralympic qualifiers, which is sadly not the case for many other sports, but we must continue our preparations and be flexible where we need to be, such as rescheduling cancelled events and potentially extending the timeline around the Minimum Eligibility Requirements (MER), without modifying the requirements themselves.

The disruption to the FEI Calendar as a result of Covid-19 is not just affecting athletes aiming to achieve their MERs, but also has a major impact on the Rankings across all our disciplines. We are monitoring every aspect of the sport and we are taking action wherever needed in order to provide support to our National Federations, our organisers, our athletes, our officials and the entire equestrian industry.

There will be have to be compromise and it probably won’t be perfect, but we are absolutely committed to finding the very best solution for our community and for our sport, and I sincerely believe that we will.

Resilience, determination and dedication are synonymous with the equestrian community, and they are the values we will need to embrace now more than ever before in order to overcome the widespread consequences of this global pandemic.

Let me be very clear - the FEI is always here for you. The FEI Headquarters remains fully operational and even though we are working from our homes we will continue to provide all our stakeholders with a professional and proactive service, including regular updates and comprehensive information around Covid-19 and our sport, such as the newly-published FAQ (see below).

How we tackle every day, and how we find solutions together will counterbalance the cost for our community. This sense of solidarity and this dedication is not only our remit and our mission, it is what defines our sport and the FEI Family.

Thank you for your time and please be safe.

Ingmar De Vos
FEI President

Danish top placement at CDI3 Grand Prix freestyle last night at Keysoe for 19 year old Michigan with Ulrik Mølgaard

Danish combination Michigan and Ulrik Mølgaard - photo: @clipmyhorse

Danish combination Michigan and Ulrik Mølgaard - photo: @clipmyhorse

British Gareth Hughes with KK Woodstock won yesterday´s Grand Prix freestyle at Keysoe with a strong test, one with some technical issues for the 2 times, both the ordinary line and also for the joker line. Highlights were canter pirouettes shown with super quality and balance.

Quentano and Emile Faurie, started out with some tensions for the entering halt, but very expressive and light footed trot tour with easy passage and piaffe tours, the walk tour lacking more relaxation, and the entire canter tour becomes somewhat hot.

Danish Ulrik Mølgaard and Michigan showed a solid freestyle with some minor technical issues, but also with some technical demanding lines. It seems that the now 19 year old Michellino son showing top form together with his longtime partner. All the way shown in a super nice frame with nice forward search. The entire freestyle with a kind of “music through the eighties and nineties” well timed for the exercises.

FEI recommends cancellation of FEI Events due to Coronavirus

unnamed.png

Following last week’s communiqué to National Federations on the recommendations from the World Health Organisation (WHO) regarding Mass Gatherings and the necessity of Event Organisers to conduct a full risk assessment together with local authorities, the FEI has issued a further message to the equestrian community:

“The spread of the Coronavirus Covid-19 has taken a rapid turn for the worse and sport worldwide is affected. We as a community have to make our contribution to limit the spread of this virus, as the sooner it can be contained the sooner we will be able to get back to normal life and normal sport. And this is something that every other sport is doing.

“The FEI appreciates the amount of work and incredible investment every Organiser puts into their Event. While the FEI does not itself organise any FEI Events, in light of the escalating numbers of persons affected by the virus and the restrictions imposed by national governments, the

FEI strongly recommends that Organisers should cancel all events for the next four weeks until a reassessment of the situation can be made.

“The FEI and Board will work together with the International Equestrian Organisers Alliance to evaluate what can be done to try and accommodate dates for Events that have been impacted during this period.

“We are aware that this is no simple matter, as clearly no single Organiser can be favoured to the detriment of others, and we do not know how many Events will be impacted nor how long the current situation will last.

“We have decided that Calendar fees for events that have had to be cancelled because of Covid-19 will be waived. We are also assessing the impact of cancellations of Events on other areas such as ranking points and on athletes and horses seeking MERs for the Olympic or Paralympic Games and qualifications for FEI Championships.”

“We can guarantee you that we are monitoring the situation hour-by-hour and that we are constantly looking at what specific situations need to be addressed. Our thoughts are with all of you and we strongly believe that our community will do the right thing and work to support each other through this crisis.”

FEI World Cup™ Finals 2020 in Las Vegas cancelled due to Coronavirus

WC Trophies.jpg

The International Equestrian Federation (FEI), United States Equestrian (USEF) and Las Vegas Events have announced the force majeure cancellation of the FEI World Cup™ Finals 2020 in Las Vegas. The annual equestrian competition, featuring the Olympic disciplines of Jumping and Dressage, was scheduled for 15-19 April at the Thomas & Mack Center.

“It is very regrettable that next month’s FEI World Cup Finals in Las Vegas have had to be cancelled, but the decision was out of our hands”, FEI President Ingmar De Vos said.

“Since the FEI World Cup series began in 1978 for Jumping and in 1985 for Dressage, the Finals have never had to be cancelled before, but the global concerns about the spread of the virus and the travel restrictions imposed by the US Government have meant that the Finals are one of many major sporting events impacted by this outbreak.

“Like everyone in our community, we are disappointed, not only for the athletes who have qualified for the Finals, but also for Las Vegas Events and US Equestrian, and of course our top partner Longines, but the health, well-being and safety of our athletes, officials and our fans has to be our top priority. We hope we can alleviate that disappointment by returning to Las Vegas for a wonderful FEI World Cup Finals in the future.”

All ticket buyers and exhibitors will be issued full refunds. The Las Vegas Events ticket office will contact all ticket holders on the process starting the week of 16 March.

Further information on the FEI World Cup™ Finals 2020 in Las Vegas can be found at www.WorldCupLasVegas.com.
