Very interesting stallion prospects ready for licensing

Very positive watching the entire collection ready for the licensing. The not so frequented stallion Buckingham (Bordeaux/Rousseau) has 3 offsprings selectedfor the licensing, all 3 showing very nice qualities.

H2R picked 7 super interesting stallions, but definitely with more very interesting stallions from the collection.

Remember you can follow the entire licensing live via Clipmyhorse.

No 38 - looks like a clear premium stallion and top price for the auction.

No 42 - lovely type with super natural power and super canter.

No 43 - elasticity and expression, even though he is not showing any canter. Superb supple angle from behind.

No 50 - super lovely model with suppleness and expression pure.

No 56 - nice supple mover, but need some “rebuild” of the muscles. Interesting to see the development.

No 58 - impressive stallion showing lots of power and expression.

No 72 - super supple both hind and front, but the back is definitely only for a 16” saddle.

FEI Press release - 2016 series champion moves into equal-third on Western European League table

Glock’s Dream Boy NOP lived up to his name when carrying 2016 champion Hans Peter Minderhoud (45) from The Netherlands to victory at the seventh leg of the FEI Dressage World Cup™ 2018/2019 Western European League in Mechelen, Belgium today.

At just 10 years of age this young stallion is demonstrating colossal potential, and his score of 83.665 pinned 2013 series winner Helen Langehanenberg (36) from Germany and Damsey FRH into second, while the super-exciting Portuguese partnership of Maria Caetano (32) and Coroado strutted their way into third.

The final five all produced stunning performances, Sweden’s Therese Nilshagen (35) finishing fourth with Dante Weltino OLD despite some miscommunications early in their test, and Ireland’s Judy Reynolds (37) making a great come-back with Vancouver K to line up in fifth place.

Mechelen was also making a welcome come-back this week after a few years absence from the FEI Dressage World Cup™ circuit. So just before today’s prizegiving ceremony was perfect timing for an emotional farewell tribute to Tiamo, the 18-year-old gelding that carried Belgium’s Jorinde Verwimp to many great moments and who finished eighth on their very last outing together this afternoon.

Minderhoud’s win is another milestone in the rapid progression being made by his still quite inexperienced young horse who won the Grand Prix and finished third in the Freestyle at Olympia, London (GBR) just before Christmas. “He only did a few Grand Prix competitions before qualifying for Tryon (FEI World Equestrian Games) this year - it was a bit early for him in his career, so after that I gave him a long rest and then restarted at Olympia. That wasn’t the most easy show for him to come back to, and I was not so happy with how he felt…he had been going so well at home. But then I bring him to another show here in Mechelen ten days later and he is super - I mean super!” said the delighted Dutchman.

"Here he was much more focused, not like at Olympia where I had to survive it a little! Today I could ride to the point, and he was really trying for me!"

Hans Peter Minderhoud (NED)

Caetano and her adorable grey Lusitano, Coroado, set a whole new standard when posting 80.160 when fifth last to go of the 15 starters. At the fourth leg of the Western European League in Madrid (ESP) last month they scored 77.655 for third place, but things didn’t go to plan at Olympia where their mark of 73.900 left them well down the line. There’s something really special about this pair who have sprung to prominence recently however, and they both looked radiant after showing the most fabulous passage and piaffe, and a great sense of harmony, during today’s wonderful performance.

Langehanenberg bettered that when scoring 82.880 despite testing the nerve of Judge at C, Belgium’s Jacques van Daele, as she powered to a very late halt. And although Reynolds and her 16-year-old gelding didn’t challenge for the top spot, their new routine to a wonderful compilation of traditional Irish music had the spectators’ toes tapping and put 78.570 on the board.

Nilshagen’s chances were hampered when her horse dropped the contact early in their test, but with a degree of difficulty of 10 and the stallion’s breathtaking extended canter they clawed it back to put 80.090 on the board. So Minderhoud was chasing Langehanenberg’s leading score as he set off, last to go, and Dream Boy didn’t let him down. He’s a horse that’s growing in confidence all the time, and after winning yesterday’s Grand Prix he was always the one to beat.

"He’s a very sweet horse, and because he’s seen all the things that approved stallions see at a young age he’s not really spooky or anything. In the beginning I felt he went into himself a bit in big arenas, but yesterday and today he was much happier"

Hans Peter Minderhoud (NED)

With just three more qualifiers to go in the Western European League, the next port of call is on Minderhoud’s home turf in the Dutch capital city of Amsterdam at the end of January. And having moved up to joint-third on the leaderboard he’s looking forward to getting to the 2019 Final next April in Gothenburg, Sweden, which is where he won the coveted FEI Dressage World Cup™ title two years ago.

Determination and power for today’s World Cup victory

Minderhoud and Dream Boy ones again showed a strong test today winning the World Cup freestyle in front of routined Langehanenberg and Damsey.

Langehanenberg and Damsey delivered a strong freestyle with both more power and expression as the Grand Prix, with only weak point for today’s half passes missing more carriage and suppleness. Super nice piaffe tours, nice series, lovely balanced pirouettes and not least their special trademark the walk tour. Score 82,880%.

It was kind of a challenge trying to beat this score for Minderhoud with his still very young stallion. From the first step they both looked very determined and focused, and Dream Boy is responding positively all the way. Lovely freestyle with super nice music which suits the black elegant stallion very well. Just a small technical issue for the 2nd series with one times where Dream Boy jumps parallel hind. Very nice overall picture with nice suppleness and expression. Super way saying goodbye to the 1st year at international top level for Minderhoud and Dream Boy.

Portugal´s Maria Caetano with her big grey Lusitano stallion Coroado just stepped into the +80% freestyle league today.

18 combinations were ready for the last leg of FEI World Cup before the new year

It is always nice to follow the young Grand Prix horses developing over time, and for the just 10 year old Glock´s Dream Boy with Hans Peter Minderhoud it´s been a great journey.

They started their first international Grand Prix back in April, and became a part of the Dutch team for WEG in Tryon. Less than 2 weeks ago they won the pilot short Grand Prix during the World Cup in London, and today the showed even greater form winning the Grand Prix with impressive 75,870% - stronger and more confident over all picture, and the qualities of the piaffe/passage tours with activity, expression and smooth transitions just shows something extra - also for the future.

Top 3 H2R comments during the test:

Glock´s Dream Boy NED - good halt and forward, active diagonal with good expression, nice swing and balance for half passes, good halt with rein back, very nice 1st passage/piaffe/passage tour with nice energy, lack bit more stretching for the extended walk, good transition to passage, super nice 2nd piaffe with nice transitions, nice 2 times, good extension, good zig-zag, good 1 times, nice canter and balance for both pirouette, tiny hind aides into 2nd pirouette, super nice final.

Damsey FRH GER - lack bit more flow for half passes, some tensions hind for the first passage tour, good walk tour, lack clear forward in passage becomes a bit stocked with small steps, 2 times could show bit more forward flow, good 1 times, nice canter for both pirouettes, 2nd tiny overturned, some tensions hind for passage at centerline, small steps forward final piaffe with nice angle.

Dante Weltino OLD SWE - good halt, power extension, nice swing carriage for half passes, good halt bit tense rein back, power extension, nice passage, good piaffe lack bit more clear flow out, bit tense extended walk, tense transition to passage, same 2nd piaffe, nice 2 times, nice extended canter, nice zig-zag, nice 1 times, jumping a bit sidewards for 1st pirouette, 2nd pirouette with nice sit and balance, nice passage and into piaffe, but to many small trot steps out before catching the passage rhythm.

FEI PRESS RELEASE - The Netherlands’ Minderhoud finishes third

Screen+Shot+2018-12-19+at+08.15.43.jpg
Screen+Shot+2018-12-19+at+08.15.47.jpg

Germany’s Frederic Wandres (31) and the aptly-named gelding, Duke of Britain, created a major sensation when reigning supreme in the sixth leg of the FEI Dressage World Cup™ 2018/2019 Western European League at the London International Horse Show in Olympia (GBR) tonight. Not just because the man who rides for the world-famous Hof Kasselmann produced a spectacular personal-best score of 80.030 on his way to victory, but also because he matched the result posted by British superstar Charlotte Dujardin (33) riding Hawtins Delicato and pinned her into runner-up spot when achieving higher artistic marks.

"To reach the magical 80 percent is a real WOW for me!"

Frederic Wandres (GER)

Wandres, however, has been rapidly rising to the top of sport over the past year. So much so that he is now listed in the German B squad going into 2019. He only posted his very first big international win at the Central European League FEI Dressage World Cup™ qualifier in Zakrzow, Poland two months ago, but his consistently impressive performances with the 11-year-old Duke of Britain have not gone unnoticed.

Third-last to go in the field of 12, he broke the mould when sporting a bow-tie throughout his lovely test that oozed “partnership” from start to finish. And he knew he’d done a good job when he rode to a halt and broke into a huge smile.

On a night when the electric Olympia atmosphere proved difficult for many others, Duke of Britain was in his element.

"That’s his big plus - I can always trust him, he’s completely chilled and not at all spooky, and if I don’t make a mistake then he won’t either!"

Frederic Wandres (GER)

Yesterday Olympia hosted the pilot for a shortened Grand Prix, together with a whole new presentation concept which was trialed for the first time in the London venue, including in-arena athlete interviews immediately after their test.  Almost instant scoring, while the athletes were still in the arena, proved a real crowd-pleaser, and it was The Netherlands’ Hans Peter Minderhoud who came out on top ahead of Dujardin in second and Wandres in third.

Last to go today however, the Dutchman’s 10-year-old stallion Glock’s Dream Boy NOP, who showed fantastic spring, power and elevation, was tense and sometimes hesitant, and their score of 77.990 was only good enough for third this time around.

When Dujardin was asked if she’d ever been beaten by another rider who posted exactly the same score, the three-time Olympic gold medallist replied tonight “no never - that’s the first time! It was extremely close and I feel like a joint-winner really!”

“I was really happy with Delicato, he’s a young inexperienced horse. I rode him as a youngster through Small Tour levels and he did his first Grand Prix in January and then Carl (Hester) took over the ride. I literally got on him three weeks ago… I didn’t know what to expect from him in this environment and I’m pleased with our clear round, there’s so much more to come from him”, she said of the 10-year-old which, ridden by Hester, helped clinch team bronze for Britain at the FEI World Equestrian Games last September.

Wandres, who also specialises in producing young horses, has been riding Duke of Britain for three years. “Last December we competed in the Louisdor Cup Finals for developing horses in Frankfurt, and the way he has developed since then to win two World Cup classes is really unbelievable! It speaks for the character, the ability and the willingness of this horse!” he said.

But now he finds himself in exactly the same position as compatriot Benjamin Werndl who won the previous leg of the Western European series in Salzburg, Austria two weeks ago and currently leads the league table. Only three riders per nation are permitted to compete at the FEI Dressage World Cup™ 2019 Final in Gothenburg, Sweden next April, and the battle between the leading Germans is a ferocious one. Even though today’s result has catapulted him to third on the leaderboard, it’s no guarantee Wandres will make the cut. He’s going to give his horse an eight-week break and bring him out again for penultimate qualifier of the 10-leg series on home ground in Neumunster in February and see how it goes from there.

“I spoke to Monica (Theodorescu, German team coach) and she said if you have the chance to ride at these super shows then you take it, so that’s what I’m going to do. Because in the end you never know what might happen, and for sure I want to go to Gothenburg if I can!” he said.

OLYMPIA, THE LONDON INTERNATIONAL HORSE SHOW DAILY REPORT

Olympia, The London International Horse Show opened its door for the first day of the week-long event. The UK's largest indoor Show saw many of the world's best Dressage riders out in full-force for the newly formatted FEI Dressage World Cup™ Grand Prix supported by Horse & Hound, which saw Hans Peter Minderhoud clinch the victory with a score of 73.895%. Great Britain's Charlotte Dujardin finished close behind on a score of 73.026% to take second.

The Osborne Refrigerators Shetland Pony Grand National got off to a flying start as Olive Nicholls, daughter of renowned racing trainer Paul Nicholls, stormed her way to victory, taking the first win of the week. The Grand Hall also applauded a welcomed-return of La Garde Républicaine for the premier evening of the Show, as they displayed their impressive routine to the evening's spectators.

HANS PETER MINDERHOUD TAKES FIRST VICTORY OF NEWLY FORMATTED FEI DRESSAGE WORLD CUP™ GRAND PRIX SUPPORTED HORSE & HOUND

Dutchman Hans Peter Minderhoud and the young stallion Glock’s Dream Boy NOP stole the first win of the show, The FEI Dressage World CupTM Grand Prix supported by Horse & Hound, at Olympia, The London International Horse Show. It was also the first win at Olympia for Minderhoud who has been second and third on previous occasions.

The combination headed off British golden girl Charlotte Dujardin, who for the show was paired with Hawtins Delicato, the team horse of her mentor Carl Hester. Dujardin and ‘Del’ had the debateable honour of being the first in the class meaning they were the first ever combination to ride the newly designed and shortened grand prix being piloted at the show, as part of the FEI Dressage World CupTM package. The revamp also included an immediate after test dismount and spotlight interview in the arena before the five judges scores were revealed.

“It was all very new and different to what we have been used to but for me it was a really cool moment when the scores came up and I was very happy,” said Minderhoud.

Dujardin was also pleased with her ride and place especially as she was the test guinea pig.

“I didn’t have the chance to watch anyone ride through the test and Del has never been to an indoor show like this so I was pleased with him,” said Dujardin.

“Getting off the horse in the arena and having an interview straight away took me back a bit but it was great to have the support of the crowd.”

German debutant Frederic Wandres and the chestnut gelding Duke of Britain claimed an impressive third place on their first visit to the show. The pair produced a fluent test which could have scored higher but for mistakes in the two tempi changes.

“When I saw the arena for the first time, I thought it was just breath-taking,” said Wandres who enjoyed the new test.”I have never been to a show like this before and it is the nicest show I have ever been to.”

“I was nervous about riding the new test but for me it rode well and my horse coped with the movements and felt really good.”

British judge Stephen Clarke commented;

“Yes the test was quite difficult as the movements come up quickly and are short – it is undoubtedly easier to judge than ride. But the evening as a whole was great; there was a good crowd and you could really feel the interest and enthusiasm – it was a good evening for the sport.”

All 12 competitors in the Grand Prix go forward tomorrow night’s FEI Dressage World CupTM Freestyle supported by Horse & Hound. They include British riders Hayley Watson-Greaves (Rubins Nite), Richard Davison (Bubblingh) and Lara Butler (Rubin Al Asad) who finished 4th, 5th and 6th respectively.

VIDEO - Louisdor Preis winner 2018 Danish Daniel Bachmann Andersen and Blue Hors Veneziano

Screen+Shot+2018-12-16+at+18.52.32.jpg

Another successful day for Danish Daniel Bachmann Andersen winning the prestigious Louisdor Preis title.

Louisdor Preis is for 8-10 year old young Grand Prix horses on their way into the big sport. For all the qualifications (in Intermediaire II) it is allowed to ride the tests with whip, while the final today is in Grand Prix and without whip. For Daniel this part is no issue as Veneziano already seems to be so well schooled and on the aides, and further more it looks like Daniel is able to adjust during the test without any “stallion issues”.

Before the test the goal from Daniel was riding an error free test with his just 8 year old Veneziano by Vivaldi out of the full sister of Blue Hors Don Schufro, Fabina. And this goal he succeeded in a very nice way. Lots of positive comments after the test from Dr. Dietrich Plewa underlined with “the door is open for success at World Class level”.

This years prestigious final was not at quite same level as seen before. Of course it was very nice horses with top riders, but for more the environment seems to affect the young horses, and the extraordinary qualities were missing.

From H2R point of view especially two riders was missing, Mathias Bouten and also Norwegian Isabel Freese, as she just had her first child and was of course with legal excuse. They normally both shows top horses extremely well prepared for the final.

But one horse and rider stood out and won this years prestigious title. And as commentator in the arena Mr. Plewa stated: “This final is also about finding the horses with the best potential for the future”.

For Dorothee Schneider this was her 2nd victory in the final and her 15 horse for the final. First Romance by Fürst Romancier has been at Dorothee´s stable since he was 4 years old.

H2R comments during the test:

small issue out of halt, super active diagonal, smooth active half passes, trot like a cat, superb supple extended walk tour lovely stretching, high quality collected walk tour, small issue passing C, tension hind for 1st pirouette, tense change at C, better 2nd pirouette, nice change, tensions for both series, nice halt with rein back, small lack of beat towards halt.

Comments from Hess:
A dream horse, World Class horse, super aura for the horse, super test.

Desperados, Zaire-E and Blue Hors Zepter - top of today's CDI4 Grand Prix Special

Blue Hors Zepter and Daniel Bachmann Andersen - photo credit: Thomas Bisgaard

Blue Hors Zepter and Daniel Bachmann Andersen - photo credit: Thomas Bisgaard

The very routined combinations in front of young Blue Hors Zepter today

It looked like a bit of confusion before the first combination was about to start. Judge at C was missing, instead one of the “spectators” jumped into the presidents seat and took over the bell. Unfortunately Mr. Christoph Umbach did not show up at the right time as he had overslept, and luckily American 5-star judge Janet Foy was ready, and Dorothee Schneider could start her test with just 2 minutes delay.

Desperados and Kristina Bröring-Sprehe did a strong comeback with today’s victory, but from H2R point of view there were more things that did not bring them as far as for 78%.

Desperados FRH GER - nice start, good diagonal, lack bit more suppleness for half pass right, few steps lacking more clear push for passage, nice in and out with good extensions, good walk tour, good 1st piaffe, lack more regularity for passage after 1st piaffe, nice 2nd piaffe, early transition to canter, nice canter half passes, last change 2 times with parallel hind, nice 1 times, super extended canter full risk, super control balance 1st pirouette, nice one times, super sit and canter quality 2nd pirouette, nice transition to trot, good final piaffe some tense final passage steps.

Zaire-E showed top qualities from H2R point of view today’s winner.

Zaire E GER - sharp trot tour, lots of power for the extension/passage tours, supple half passes with nice forward energy, good walk tour, easy 1st piaffe, 2nd piaffe active on the spot with nice transitions, nice canter half passes, good 2 times, small tensions for 1 times, nice centerline with good pirouettes, easy in/out final piaffe and with super passage all the way.

Young Blue Hors Zepter was like Heike Kemmer said during the test a bit affected about the entire event today. And as Kemmer explained it is a very busy event and so much going on every time the horses are out of their box, and for a young horse like the top talented Zepter it did affect him today. Daniel Bachmann Andersen was of course very pleased about his young star and at the same time fully agreed about the considerations from Kemmer. “Today Zepter felt a little bit tired for some moments during our test, and with him it is shown with some tensions, but he is still trying his heart out all the way for me, and I’m very proud of him. This was our final centerline for 2018 and he will have have a well deserved Christmas holiday, and I feel we have made our debut into the big international stage this year being able to show his potential and qualities the best way,” Daniel says.

H2R comments during the test:

Blue Hors Zepter DEN - super halt and forward, good extension, supple half pass left, nice transition to passage, nice in and out passage/extensions, begin of passage with some smaller tensions hind, becomes better during the test, good walk tour, nice 1st piaffe many steps, 2nd piaffe nice and good transitions, tension at transition for canter, nice half passes canter, nice 2 times 1st change tiny smaller, ok 1 times small tensions, bit stocked out 1st pirouette, error 9 one times, tension 2nd pirouette, super extension long side, super final centerline.

Daniel Bachmann Andersen and Blue Hors Zepter winner of CDI4 Grand Prix in Frankfurt today

Screen%2BShot%2B2018-12-14%2Bat%2B10.59.15.jpg

Super control, top timing and top qualities for today’s winner

A very strong field for today’s CDI4 Grand Prix in Frankfurt and with the young combination Danish Daniel Bachmann Andersen and his 10-year old Blue Hors Zack son Zepter as well deserved winners and also with a fully agreed judging team.

It is a pleasure to watch this combination, and today the co-commentator at Clipmyhorse was Germany´s Heike Kemmer. Very interesting comments during Daniels test, as Kemmer is very much into the details and have sharp eyes for the fine feeling and aides from Daniel, and how Zepter is every time responding in a positive way.

78,543% is an impressive score but for sure still not the final points, as there are still more smaller details to catch for the future.

H2R comments during the test:

Blue Hors Zepter DEN - nice halt, super forward, expressive diagonal, well balanced half passes with nice expression, superb halt with rein back, super extension nice back into passage, small forward piaffe lovely angle with easy transitions, very good walk tour, easy into passage, 2nd piaffe on the spot, bit small 7th change for 2 times, super extension, nice zig-zag, nice 1 times, super easy pirouettes lovely canter quality, nice transition to trot, power diagonal, dancing 100% regular passage, piaffe at the spot, super final meter.

Just outside today’s placements with best ever performance from Danish Carina Cassøe Krüth with May-Day Graftebjerg today. Smooth test without any technical issues, and from H2R point of view the final score was clearly at the level from Dr. Plewa at H with 71,957% - total score was 70,174%.

Lovely to watch how focused both rider and horse were in this quite impressive arena.

H2R comments during the test:

May-Day Graftebjerg DEN - nice steady halt, good forward, smooth extended trot with nice expression, nice forward supple half passes, super halt with rein back, super extension, nice back to passage, good passage easy transitions, nice small forward trend for piaffe but keeping the rhythm and expression, good walk tour, super into passage at M, good 2nd piaffe/passage tour, nice 2 times, good extended canter, well balanced zig-zag, nice 1 one times, well balanced pirouettes, nice transition at M, super extension, super sharp final centerline, perfect halt.

The dressage day with the pre-selection for Danish Warmblood stallion licensing taking place in Herning 6-10 March 2019 started today at 13:00 at Vilhelmsborg. Earlier this morning the pre-selection for the jumping horses took place.

The grey and very cold Danish kind of “pre-winter-weather” invited a lot of breeding and dressage enthusiast inside for the big and heated indoor arena at Vilhelmsborg. An arena decorated with beautiful Christmas atmosphere from the recent great Christmas jumping show with more than 7.000 starters.

Nearly all seats at the longside where occupied and everyone had their own agenda for “what is a future breeding stallion”, but at the same time a lot of people knew what to look for, of course with some differences for which breeding preferred, but all with the sharp eyes for the future breeding stallions.

H2R favourites

25 stallions were invited for the main licensing, and out of them H2R of course found a couple of clear favourites, but unfortunately this first boy here below did not get the final permission for the main licensing - he was one of H2R favourites, but he showed a very weak canter for the lunging, looked mostly because of kind of “human failure” - this boy should for sure have had the chance to show himself in Herning.

Selected H2R favorites:

138 Hesselhøj Downtown by Hesselhøj Donkey Boy/Blue Hors Zack. In many way a true copy of this sire, and a very well moving young stallion.

149 Tophøjs Falchetto by Floriscount/Solos Landtinus. Long legged and big framed young boy with huge gaits, and showing himself even better at the lunging than the presentation free today.

151 Fire Dream by For Romance / Desperados. Expressive and powerful stallion off the ground for every single step, medium size and lovely confirmation.

153 Franzisco by Franklin / Blue Hors Don Schufro. Super expressive and supple mover with all three gaits.

156 Gjeteruds Flambeau by Fürstenball/Blue Hors Zack. Supple and sharp with nice noble type and format.

160 Leandor B by Governor / Rousseau. Well balanced with power off the ground in all three gaits.

161 Giovanni Bell by Grand Galaxy Win / Blue Hors Don Romantic. Elegant light footed well moving stallion.

168 Schwalbenkönig Macohl by Sezuan / Schwadroneur. Noble, elegant big framed supple mover, nice elasticity and volume for both trot and canter and supple walk.

177 Brandtbjergs Sacremento by Blue Hors St. Schufro / Blue Hors Zack. Light footed easy mover with nice expression.

181 Maskedals a Kind of Magic by Vincent Maranello / Totilas. Super functionel in an always uphill frame with nice national carriage. One of the top canters for the lunging today.
