Hannover‘s Supergirls - Herwart von der Decken-Show

Verden. Their names are Hann.Pr.A. Donna Bella and Hann.Pr.A. Summersby and they are the best three-year-old mares in Hannover. They won the Herwart von der Decken-Show.

Dressage part of press release

"Great finish", said Katy Holder-Vale after the presentation of the 40 dressage mares on the triangular track. Together with Matthias Klatt and Ulrich Hahne, the chairwoman of the British Hanoverian Horse Society judged the three-year-olds, who were extremely strong in movement. She had hardly stepped onto the track as the first competitor when the hearts flew to her: Hann.Pr.A. Ballerina by Bon Courage/Destano (breeder: Hof Schepergerdes, Meppen, exhibitor: Christa Zumbeel-Dust, Bawinkel) thrilled with her performance and was celebrated as the Champion Mare Dressage. A year ago her half brother Big Ben by Bonds was licensed in Verden. She was hardly inferior to Hann.Pr.A. Summersby by Sandro Hit/Donnerhall (breeder and exhibitor: W.M. Stud, Visselhövede), who won the title of Reserve Champion. She comes from a sporty family, her granddam Real Gold is the dam of Duke of Britain FRH, who won team bronze with Germany’s Frederic Wandres at the World Championships in Herning/DEN.

In addition, the best mare family of the past show season was awarded in the For Pleasure arena. The Friedrich Jahncke Prize went to Hann.Pr.St. Chayenne by Christ/Raphael (breeder: Marefield Meadows, Blender) and her two daughters Hann.Pr.A. Doortje by D'Egalite and a two-year-old by Jovian. The breeding association Lange from Albstedt had presented this outstanding family out of the Swan Maiden line in Elmlohe.

PRESS RELEASE - Valerie B close to perfection in victory ride in qualification for five-year-old horses

A nearly perfect trot secured Valerie B (Revolution x Blue Hors Zack) and Danish rider Anne-Mette Strandby the win in the Anemone Horsetrucks qualification for five-year-old horses during the first day of the Longines FEI/WBFSH Dressage World Breeding Championship for Young Horses. Boasting a powerful canter, Skyline to B (Blue Hors St. Schufro x Ampère) and his rider Carl Hedin slotted in second place, followed by another Danish mare: Quinn G. (Quaterhit x Fassbinder) and Betina Jaeger and Beck’s (Benicio x Desperados) ridden by Thomas Schulze.

“This horse gave me goosebumps”, states chairman of the jury Susanne Baarup about Valerie B. “It is quite emotional to judge a horse like that, she has no weaknesses. Absolutely a horse for the future.” The five-year-old mare bred by Karin and Peer Guldbrandsen and owned by Helgstrand Dressage A/S, was awarded two 9.7s on her score sheet. Besides the trot, this DWB Mare of the Year 2021, also obtained that top mark for perspective, bringing the total to 9.48 points. “The entire top 10 we have seen today, are future stars of high quality. It’s the small details that make the difference in the ranking.”

“She is perfect”
Anne Mette Strandby utters nothing but praise when she talks about her performance with Valerie. “It felt amazing! In the warming-up she was a little bit nervous about the umbrellas and the rain. It surprised me, since she is usually 200% cool. As soon as she entered the arena, she was perfect.” The Danish rider confidently looks forward to the rest of the event. “Her best qualities? Everything. She possesses three amazing gaits and a super heart. I am super happy with our debut!”

Extraordinary canter
The Swedish stallion Skyline to B, bred by Maria Rasmussen and owned by Eques Management Ab, obtained a superb 8.96-point total, partially thanks to the 9.5 for his canter. The DWB champion of five-year-old horses Quinn G, also owned by Helgstrand Dressage A/S and bred by Stutteri G, was awarded a 9 for his powerful canter. The final score of the Quaterhit-offspring came down to 8.82 points, thereby sharing the third position with the Hanoverian stallion Beck’s (Benicio x Desperados) and rider Thomas Schulze. The Danish mare and German stallion obtained similar marks, only noting a difference in the canter and trot.

PRESS RELEASE - Opoque head and shoulder above the rest in Sport Pro Horses Prize Qualification

Noting three 9.5s on the scoreboard, Opoque (All At Once x Davino V.O.D.) and Mette Sejberg Jensen triumphed in the Sport Pro Horses Prize qualification for four-year-old horses on the first day of the Longines FEI/WBFSH Dressage World Breeding Championship for Young Horses. Elastic 11 (Escolar x DiMaggio) and Maxi Kira von Platen placed second, ahead of Del Sogno 4 (Dante’s Junior x Lauries Crusador xx) ridden by Philly Roberts.

“A horse with abundant quality in the gaits and a fantastic submission throughout the test as well as a lovely, soft contact”, says member of the jury Marian Dorresteijn. “Opoque really excels in the walk.” The four-year-old KWPN stallion, bred by Stal 104 BV and co-owned by Helgstrand Dressage, received a 9.5 for his walk. His canter and perspective were also awarded a 9.5. “Especially the best-ranked horses today, showed to possess three solid gaits and a great rideability.”

Owe it all to Opoque
Mette Sejbjerg Jensen can hardly believe the result after the prize giving ceremony: “What a ride, what a horse! He is truly incredible. My goal here is to enjoy it all and have fun. I am so lucky to ride a horse that did not put a hoof wrong in the test. I owe it all to him.” The rider was complimented on her presentation of the crowd pleaser of the 2022 KWPN Performance Test. “Upon his arrival I immediately told Andreas: ‘this is my horse, please let me ride him’. Riding a horse in such a grand arena is every rider’s dream. To me, it does not matter how the final pans out, I will always remember this ride.”

Great movement mechanics
The runner-up Elastic 11, bred by Daniela Werheit Waemeyen and owned by Helgstrand Dressage, was granted a 9.5 for his canter, but struggled with the walk. “The number one was a true highlight on all accounts, the other competitors left room for improvement in one gait. It sometimes resulted in nearly the exact same scores”, explains member of the jury Janine van Twist. This was also the case for Elastic 11 and Del Sogno 4, that obtained scores of 8.78 and 8.72, respectively. The Hanoverian number three, bred by Eibe Johannes and owned by Rothenberger Venturea GMBH, showed a powerful trot that was awarded an 8.9. “Overall, a very good class with a lot of quality, great movement mechanics and correct presentations”, concludes Marian Dorresteijn.

After the Herwart von der Decken Show on Thursday, Friday is all about the foals. After the presentation on the show grounds, the OnLive Auction will start in the Niedersachsenhalle in the afternoon. Denmark best on the day, Germany crowned best for the season in Falsterbo

It was a familiar victory Sunday in Falsterbo (SWE) for Denmark, who brought the 2023 FEI Dressage Nations Cup™ season to a close with an impressive victory over the home nation.

The victory marked the second straight in Falsterbo for the Danish, who were also Nations Cup victors at CDIO5* Compiègne (FRA) in May and runners-up at CDIO5* Aachen (GER) this season. The four-rider squad of Daniel Bachmann Andersen (Zippo M.I.), Anna Zibrandtsen (Quel Filou), Nadja Aaboe Sloth (Favour Gersdorf) and Anne Marie Hosbond (Scarlett 712) finished the CDIO4* FEI Grand Prix, Grand Prix Special and Grand Prix Freestyle tests on a winning total of 22 points. Sweden finished second with 31 points, followed by the Netherlands (43 points)

Team classification was determined by adding up points for the three best results per team in the Grand Prix and across the Grand Prix Special and Grand Prix Freestyle, with points equating to finish positions in the tests. The winning team recorded the lowest point total.

Both Bachmann Andersen and Sloth were part of last year's winning team and returned to Falsterbo with the same mounts from that performance. Their experience showed as they delivered under pressure, with Bachmann Andersen performing best for his team in the Grand Prix, finishing third; and Sloth putting forth Denmark's best result in the Freestyle, checking in fourth.

But it was the Special that proved to be Denmark's best test, with Zibrandtsen and Bachmann Andersen riding to personal bests aboard Quel Filou (75.787%) and Zippo M.I. (75.128%), respectively, to take the top two placings. Bachmann Andersen had twice the responsibility, also serving as the squad's chef d'equipe.

"I think we have performed really, really well and also [had] very solid performances in the Grand Prix, where we laid the foundation for this great result."

Daniel Bachmann Andersen (DEN)

After a brief respite from competition to focus on training, 11-year-old Zippo M.I. has come out stronger, finishing on the podium in each of his tests.

"He was doing World Cups and I was thinking, 'Okay, we'll give him a little break from the shows to try to make some of the things better and stronger, give him some more self-confidence. And that really worked out," Bachmann Andersen said. "He's been coming out even stronger and even better in his piaffes. That was not his strength. I feel like we are working closer together, and he's starting to be an established Grand Prix horse at the top level."

Bachmann Andersen and Zibrandtsen were never separated by more than one position on the leaderboard. For Zibrandtsen, her performance was especially meaningful given it was her horse's Nations Cup debut. The pair debuted internationally just one year ago, at Falsterbo in the CDI3* division.

"When we did the halt [in the Special, Quel Filou] was like, 'I want to go forward. Why are we standing here?' He's just fighting for it and fighting for us...I was just smiling all the way. I was so happy."

Anna Zibrandtsen (SWE)

Sweden certainly made its rally, with Patrik Kittel securing wins in both the Grand Prix and Grand Prix Freestyle. But it was depth that kept Denmark on top.

"The Danish team is strong, not just [with us] here, but also [with] all the other riders competing for the team of Denmark," Bachmann Andersen said. "In Aachen, we were very strong as well. I think we just have a really, really good foundation of good horses, good training, good riders, good teamwork, and we support each other."

Falsterbo's top two finishers were among the top three in the final FEI Dressage Nations Cup™ standings for 2023. But it was fourth-place finishers Germany who secured the overall series title, with wins at CDIO3* Wellington (USA), CDIO3* Budapest (HUN) and CDIO5* Aachen (GER).

"Aachen is our second selection [event] for the European Championships, so we had our four top riders on the team, but apart from that, we went with younger riders," said Johnny Hilberath, Germany's chef d'equipe. "It started in [Wellington] in early spring and went until here [in Falsterbo]. To win the series, is not bad, I think!"

Germany finished the season with 61 points, followed by Sweden (42 points). Denmark finished the season in third with 40 points.

"We take the Nations Cup series very seriously," Hilberath added. "It's an honor to represent our country, so we try to bring to all events a team."

Denmark in the lead of Nations Cup Falsterbo after today´s Grand Prix

Denmark took the lead

At the two first individual spots were top swedish combinations Patrik Kittel with his top horse Touchdown, while his stable rider Malin Wahlkamp-Nilsson with Bergsjoholms Valbonne took the second place.

Danish Daniel Bachmann Andersen and Zippo M.I. were at 3rd spot, while Anna Zibrandtsen and Quel Filou took 4th place. Nadja Sloth and Favour Gersdorf finished 8th with Scarlett and Anne Marie Hosbond finished individually as no 13.

As it is a team competition the best three combinations counts, and for the Swedish team Marina Mattson finished last and unfortunately the piaffe tours became kind of unexpected the exercise with biggest challenges for Anna Blomgren with Tørveslettens Sunshine, after the test they were eliminated.

H2R comments during the tests:

Daniel Bachmann & Zippo M.I. - Super halt, good power and balance for diagonal, well balanced half passes, super halt with good rein back, power diagonal, nice into passage, bit early piaffe, good rhythm for piaffe tiny trend forward, good transitions, nice passage, good into walk, could show bit more over the back for the extended walk, good collected walk, nice into passage, super piaffe at the spot, easy transitions, good into canter, good 2 times, bit swing out of corner (look like Zippo thinking half pass) before extended canter but quickly adjusted, good extension, super balance for zigzag, super 1 times, huge sit for 1st pirouette unfortunately lost balance out, looks as if he give Zippo bit more room for 2nd in super nice quality, good into trot, super diagonal, strong final centerline.
