HORSES AND STAR RIDERS WILL DANCE IN THE CDI 5*

PART OF PRESS RELEASE

In just a few days' time, the fourth edition of Le Printemps des Sports Équestres will play host to two of the world's top show jumping (CSI 5*) and dressage (CDI 5*) competitions, as well as France’s only international para-dressage event in 2025.

The riders at the very top of the world rankings in these disciplines will travel to Fontainebleau and the Grand Parquet site for the occasion, for a very exciting competition. In the CDI 5*, the British World number 3, Charlotte Fry, has confirmed her presence, as has the French number 1, Pauline Basquin. Here's a closer look at the entries for the CDI 5*.

Will France come head to head with England in the CDI 5*?

For its third edition, the CDI 5* at Le Printemps des Sports Équestres will play host to fifteen of the world's best combinations. Great Britain's Charlotte Fry, who already boasts an impressive list of wins (reigning World champion, European team champion, team bronze medallist in Versailles, and the winner of the FEI World Cup™ Final a few weeks ago in Basel), has confirmed her presence. The World number 3 will be joined by her fellow country woman and Olympic team-mate Becky Moody, fourth in the FEI World Rankings. The two British riders, who are the best ranked competitors in this event, will be up against some stiff competition, with the Olympic and best French rider Pauline Basquin (No.15), alongside her team mates Alexandra Ayache (No.49) and Anne-Sophie Serre(No.118). Will spectators in Fontainebleau be able to watch a clash between France and the UK? Or will Belgium's Larissa Pauluis (No.13) or Portugal's Maria Caetano (No.29) stand in their way in this event where there will be some fierce competition?

All will be revealed in the Grand Prix Devoucoux, on Saturday 26 April, in the morning and in the Grand Prix Freestyle Région Ile-de-France on Sunday 27 April, under the watchful eye of Raphaël Saleh, the President of the jury for this competition.

Et professionelt set-up

Santa Anita Park confirmed as venue for Olympic Games Los Angeles 2028 equestrian events

FEI Press Release
Lausanne (SUI), 15 April 2025

Santa Anita Park confirmed as venue for Olympic Games Los Angeles 2028 equestrian events

Photo caption: Team and individual Dressage champion Reiner Klimke (FRG) riding Ahlerich at Santa Anita Park during the 1984 Olympic Games.

Santa Anita Park, located in proximity to the Los Angeles city area, has been confirmed as the venue of the equestrian events of the Olympic Games Los Angeles 2028 (LA28).

“Santa Anita Park will be a spectacular venue for the LA28 Olympic equestrian events,” FEI President Ingmar De Vos said.

“The FEI has very fond memories of Santa Anita, which had hosted the equestrian events at the 1984 Olympic Games. The venue is set to offer a breathtaking stage for all the Olympic equestrian competitions and the proximity to LA City will undoubtedly attract many spectators to Santa Anita. We look forward to continuing our cooperation with LA28 to deliver spectacular equestrian events at the 2028 Games in Los Angeles.”

“I would like to thank the FEI on behalf of the IOC for the active engagement in all the discussions regarding the venue,” IOC Sports Director Kit McConnell said. “We have created a strong partnership with the Organising Committee and the city of Los Angeles, which enjoys the full support of the local equestrian community.”

"We have the utmost confidence in the LA28 Organizing Committee, and we anticipate exceptional equestrian sport will take place at this special legacy venue from the 1984 Olympic Games. We are also extremely pleased that the IOC has confirmed the athlete quotas across the disciplines for 2028 and they remain unchanged from 2024,” said Bill Moroney, Chief Executive Officer of US Equestrian.

Santa Anita features an on-course veterinary clinic and has hosted some of the major Thoroughbred events in the USA including the Breeders Cup. The famous champion thoroughbred racehorse Seabiscuit won his last race at Santa Anita in 1940. The facility also hosts a CSI3* as well as a FEI Jumping World Cup™ Qualifier CSI5*-W, which this year will take place in November.

Santa Anita covers 130Ha (320 acres) and includes a 340m-long (1,100-foot) grandstand that seats 26,000 spectators. The track infield area, which resembles a park with picnic tables and large trees, can accommodate a crowd of 50,000. The Park has 61 barns that can house more than 2,000 horses.

The venue for the Para Equestrian events will be announced at a later date following the review and approval of the International Paralympic Committee Governing Board.

Behind Danish Warmblood gelding SPARADAY - Breeder, owner, amateur rider and trainer team

This weekends trainer team the married couple Helle Wibe and Søren Christensen with Sparaday and Anna Raben - private photo.

Clear hattrick for the Danish combination 8 yr old Sparaday by Tørveslettens Spartacus / Don Frederic / Sandro Hit and 18 yr old Anna Teibel Raben at last weeks international event in Tolbert. Sparaday is bred and owned by Helle Wibe and together with her husband Søren Christensen they were as usual at the sideline training Sparaday and Anna towards the success.

A special set-up with a unique breeder and owner

With just 8 yr of age the impressive Danish Warmblood gelding Sparaday kicked off his international journey starting last year in June at international junior level together with Anna Raben in the saddle. One month later (with about 4 month partnership) they were part of the Danish European Team silver medals in Opglabbeek with individual 2nd place in the team competition. Later in 2024 they finished as no 4 in the 7 yr old Young Horse finals. This year they entered Young Rider level in February in Lier with two victories and one 4th place.

On daily basic either Helle or Søren is at the sideline training Sparaday and Anna, and most recently professional master rider Jørgen Hvenegaard has been weekly part of the training in order to add even more details and experience towards this years big goal the European Championship in Kronberg.

History

12 years ago Helle and Søren went to HANN auction in order to buy a colt, as they already purchased one colt and therefore wanted to buy a friend. Sitting at the auction optaining the final bid, a nearby person said if they were aware of that the gender was not a colt as the catalog said but a filly. Kind of big surprice but Helle and Søren were still happy new owner of now a filly instead of a colt. The same year they purchased additionally 5 foals, so the “friend issue” was easily solved.

Daytona Beach by Don Frederic / Blue Hors Hotline / Sandro Hit

Daytona Beach was a filly not a colt.

After having Daytona Beach under saddle Helle and Søren wanted to try to put her in foal, and at that time all eyes were the super mare line from Danish breeders Pernille and Steen Rugaard, Stutteri Tørvesletten. Back then Tørveslettens Spartacus by Sezuan was approved for Danish Warmblood. He was out of Tørveslettens Quattro (by Quaterback), later on all lips with Anna Blomgren in saddle at international GP level, and this combination made Sparaday. Only a total of 4 offspring are registered by Tørveslettens Spartacus as later was gelded and sold.

Currently Helle and Søren has 6 offsprings from Daytona Beach:

  • 5 yr old by Bøgegaardens Santiago Bernabeu

  • 4 yr old by Vainqueur

  • 3 yr old by Donkey Boss

  • 2 yr old by Donkey Boss

  • 1 yr old by Skyline to B

Daytona is currently not pregnant for 2025, but is recently inseminated with Double Up by Donkey Boy / Tailormade Lancelot.

Amateur/professionel trainer team

As a 6 yr old Sparaday has been educated by Søren Christensen (husband of breeder and owner Helle Wibe) and was at that time showing secure flying changes and of course with great basic qualities.

As kind of coincidence young Anna Raben a local horse girl (former successful at pony level) got a test ride on one of the other horses from Helle and Søren and soon they saw Anna as a potential rider also for Sparaday. Helle and Søren has been focused all the way looking into a solid educational development, firstly for the young horse classes and then with junior level as a target. Last week with hattrick at the international event in Tolbert, Holland at Young Rider level.

From the beginning it has been mandatory that both Helle and Søren has been a part of this journey and therefore also important that they would be able to be close to their heart horse Sparaday in the everyday.

On site warm up

At the competition warm-up arena Søren is kind of start-up “head coach” for Sparaday and Anna and where Helle takes over for the final preparation getting them ready entering the competition arena.

As Helle tells: “Our main goal has been building up a system with about 30 minutes warm up for Sparaday and Anna, with focus on suppleness, only doing a few check up exercises.” At the same time Helle and Søren tells that Anna is super gifted in order to respond and reflect on advises during each training session.

The trainer job was definitely not in the cards for Helle and Søren at the big international competition where they now stand along side international top trainers and Grand Prix riders.

Shining together

Both Helle and Søren feel very privileged as owner, breeder and trainer team with a horse like Sparaday without any weeknesses for this level, and being able to guide a combination where both horse and rider actually is able to develop from day to day. It is definitely an easier journey with a top horse as a rider, and a gift to have tried to get the right feeling when your horse is able to respond and execute what´s been asking for.

Next event for Sparaday, Anna and the trainer team is planned to be at Danish national Championship end of May.

Day 3 in Tolbert - Danish victories in Young Rider individual, Pony freestyle and Junior consolation

Same place different day for the winner Danish YR Anna Raben and Danish Warmblood gelding Sparaday - private photo.

YR individuel Sparaday & Anna Raben

Again today Anna Raben & Danish Warmblood gelding Sparaday showed themselves at top level. Error free performance, not much to comment about only the halts which were missing to be more balanced and square, but still nice immobile though. Easy, effortless, soft and harmonious test and from the “sideline” it was bit conservative judging. Where were the 9’s for the 3 times! (7,5-8-8)

Inter I Kavira & Sofie Lexner

Floating around for the trot tour with super expression, power and balance, trending 74, bit tension for walk tour, error free canter tour, for some moments bit tense, need more suppleness over the back, but well managed all the way.

Inter I Skovdals Dexter & Susanne Barnow

Good halt, power diagonal well balanced, tiny unbalanced shoulder in, good volte and half pass, good halt bit hurried rein back, nice half pass, good volte, good shoulder in, power short diagonal smooth into walk, nice collected walk, super extended walk, good into canter, bit unbalanced zigzag, good diagonal, bit swing hind for 3 times, well prepared with good sit both pirouettes, nice 2 times, good into trot, power diagonal super balance, good halt. 70,000%

Ny forening for unge i dansk ridesport

PRESSEMEDDELELSE

H2R note

Danish combinations conquer Tolbert at the first competition day

Podium for Young Rider - 1 Anna Raben, 2 & 6 Tessa Kole, 3 & 4 Michella Skovsager - photo: Private

YOUNG RIDER - 🇩🇰1 - 3 - 4

Finishing the first competition day in Tolbert with top Young Rider performance from 8 yr old Danish Warmblood gelding Sparaday by Tørveslettens Spartacus / Don Frederico, ridden by 18 yr old Anna Raben, and owned by the breeder Helle Wibe

A pleasure to see this natural go and flow produced from a good seat and a steady soft hand. Even with PB on 74,117% there is still room for improvement.

Good halt, good diagonal, active uphill shoulder in, well balanced volte, super uphill supple half pass left, power diagonal, nice shoulder in, smooth volte, good half pass right, good into walk, nice collected walk, missing bit more collection and activity in both pirouettes, active over the back extended walk, good into canter, nice half passes, super changes, well prepared super sit and balance for both half pirouettes, 2nd tiny hind aides, good 4 times, WOW 3 times, super extension, change bit small hind, good halt, look bit unbalanced halt.

More Danish

Also Danish Michella Skovsager made a great imprint for today´s class finishing both as no 3 and no 4 with Blue Hors Elliot and Zimillione PT2. It was her international debut with 8 yr old Zimillione, former educated and successfully competed at Young Horse level by Danish Olympic team silver medalist Cathrine Laudrup-Dufour.

JUNIOR RIDER 🇩🇰3

Laura Qvist and Hafsjolds Ranger were placed as no 3 with PB 70,050%.

PONY - 🇩🇰1 - 2

Again the Danish national anthem for the pony rider Filippa Jæger Jensen with Top Vincento for their 2nd international start together. No 2 Timms My Fritz with Agnes Beier with PB 70,762%.

INTERMEDIATE B 🇩🇰 1 - 2 - 4

International Inter B debut victory for former successful junior and young rider combination Ryvangs Zafina with Frederikke Gram Jacobsen, followed by her boss Anna Toosbuy Rasch with Danciero also making their debut at this level. Første Team Danmark og Salling Fondenes Talent samling på Stutteri Ask/Blue Hors

To dages spændende program for de 6 unge udvalgte talenter

Stallion highlights from Helgstrand presentation

Strandagergårds McCloud by My Vitality / Sezuan - screenshot/Clipmyhorse

Another huge program for Helgstrand Dressage stallion show Saturday afternoon in Vodskov.

H2R highlights

3 yr old Danish Warmblood Strandagergårds McCloud by My Vitality / Sezuan has until now shown himself with great overview, confidence and natural movements, and from H2R point of view already at the pre-selection with extra qualities.

3 yr old La Paix by La Vie / Sir Donnerhall. Easy going, natural closed frame, basic gaits with suppleness with eyes for further education.

4 yr old Danish Warmblood Invictus IWE by Iron / Quaterback. Best Iron son from H2R point of view presented for licensing so far, with suppleness and extraordinary canter.

Mette Sejbjerg Jensen showed three 5 yr old stallions all with WCYH qualities, Straight Horse Leonardo by Lord Europe / De Niro. From being a nice young stallion he has now developed much more strength body wise and look like a top candidate for Danish Warmblood in Verden this year. But Mette and Helgstrand definitely has a luxury problem as both Proud James by Jameson RS2 / Johnson and V-Power by Viva Gold / Fidertanz also are clear WCYH candidates.

New at Helgstrand was 3 yr old Danish Warmblood EVO Fernandez by Fynch Hatton / Franklin, he has recently moved to Vodskov (still owned by Stutteri EVO) and will be available for the breeders. Longlegged stallion with good attitude and very nice basic gaits.

Less is more also with top stallions

All stallions were clearly more affected from the set-up than usual. From the “side line” it was actually more like a natural picture of the young horses not being extra prepared for high music and applauding audience.

Notes from H2R

Why no Dynamic Dream sons and Bronzite among H2R highlights.

About Dynamic Dream offsprings most of them has a huge canter like himself, but will it be suitable for the future? From H2R eye they mostly missing more strength from behind, but lovely types and also look very rideable.

Bronzite is drop-dead gorgeous, but H2R missing to see Bonds offspring in the sport.

Secret himself is a top riding horse producer whether they will make to GP level only the time will show.

National Inter II and Grand Prix debut victories for Jessica von Bredow-Werndl & 10 yr old gelding Diallo in Munich

Jessica von Bredow-Werndl & Diallo - screenshot/Clipmyhorse

New talented GP horse for Jessica von Bredow-Werndl

This weekend Jessica von Bredow-Werndl made her national debut with the 10 yr old gelding Diallo by Dancier / Floriscount, former educated and competed by Uta Gräf.

Jessica won both Inter II and Grand Prix in Munich and the gelding look like a horse with a solid package including three good basic gaits, nice qualities for piaffe and passage with good rhythm and activity and presumably still a fairly new partnership as Jessica most recently posted a video on Instagram from the training.

With another former Gräf horse 9 yr old Quick Decision by Quaterhall/Rotspon Benjamin Werndl won the Inter II warm-up test of the "DERBY Stars of Tomorrow".

The entire event can be found at Clipmyhorse archive. Link for results here.

Unstoppable Fry and Glamourdale crowned World Cup champions in Basel

Charlotte Fry (GBR) and Glamourdale once again showcased their class, claiming their very first Les Trois Rois FEI Dressage World Cup™ Final victory with an impressive score of 88.195%. With nearly four percentage points of breathing room, the pair left no doubt about the outcome, taking unanimous first placings from all five judges. The podium order from the Grand Prix remained intact, with Isabell Werth (GER) and DSP Quantaz securing second place, and Isabel Freese (NOR) and Total Hope OLD completing the top three.

Following a convincing Grand Prix win the day before, Fry and the black stallion Glamourdale (owned by the athlete and Van Olst Horses) sealed the deal in Basel (SUI) in style. The reigning World Champion and Olympic Freestyle bronze medallist can now add the prestigious FEI Dressage World Cup™ Final title to her already glittering CV.

“This is very special. To win here today is absolutely amazing, and it felt like Glammie loved every second of it.”

Charlotte Fry

(GBR)

She extended her winning streak with this victory, having already claimed the World Cup freestyles victories in London (GBR), Amsterdam (NED), and ’s-Hertogenbosch (NED) with Glamourdale.

Isabell Werth (GER), riding second-last with DSP Quantaz (owned by Madeleine Winter-Schülze and Victoria Max-Theurer), came closest to challenging Fry. Scoring 84.365%, the German legend secured her third consecutive podium finish at a World Cup Final, having also placed third in Omaha (USA) and Riyadh (KSA). “Mission accomplished,” Werth laughed, having already stated ahead of the Final that second place was her realistic goal.

A second striking black stallion completed the top three: Total Hope OLD (owned by Lone Boegh Hendriksen, Oivind Bache and Paul Schockemöhle), ridden by Isabel Freese (NOR), made history by delivering Norway’s first-ever World Cup Final podium finish. Scoring 81.850%, Freese was visibly overjoyed: “I’m over the moon, this went beyond all my expectations!”

Shuffles in the midfield

While the top four remained unchanged, the rankings saw notable shifts from fifth place downwards. The action unfolded early in the evening in the beautifully dressed and atmospheric St. Jakobshalle in Basel. Kevin Kohmann (USA) guided Duenensee to a very credible performance, showing improved piaffe and passage work compared to the Grand Prix. Their 75.535% earned a place in the top 10. Just ahead of him was Pauline Basquin (FRA), whose Sertorius de Rima Z IFCE impressed in the trot tour but had some errors in the canter, scoring 77.055%.

Midway through the competition, Larissa Pauluis (BEL) entered with Flambeau and delivered a strong performance in her second World Cup Final, though a mistake in the one-tempi changes brought their score to 77.470%.

Immediately after, Bianca Nowag-Aulenbrock (GER) entered the arena and lifted the spirits with her chestnut mare. With ears pricked and a charming, crowd-pleasing Freestyle, the pair danced their way to 78.990% and a sixth place in their very first World Cup Final.

The 80% barrier breached five times

Defending champion Patrik Kittel (SWE) debuted a brand-new Freestyle with the mare Forever Young HRH, naturally featuring Alphaville’s iconic track ‘Forever Young’ to close. With a particularly expressive trot tour, they were the first combination to break the 80% barrier, posting 80.115% and ultimately finishing fifth.

Sandra Sysojeva (POL) and Maxima Bella charmed the audience with a stunning piaffe and passage tour. A mistake in the one-tempi changes and pirouettes, however, cost them, and their score of 78.590% saw them slip slightly from fourth in the Grand Prix to seventh in the Freestyle.

Meanwhile, Corentin Pottier (FRA), who had tied for fourth in the Grand Prix with Sysojeva, maintained his form. As the final rider of the evening, he and Gotilas du Feuillard delivered a polished performance, with a hiccup in the extended canter being the only flaw. Their 80.415% made them one of five combinations to break the 80% threshold.

Werth’s expertise shines

Just before Pottier, Isabell Werth entered the arena with DSP Quantaz. The seasoned competitor put her vast experience to good use, piloting the bay gelding expertly through a clean, accurate test to secure her 16th World Cup Final podium.

“Quantaz really improved from yesterday, so I’m completely happy. He was more open today; we had a good piaffe and passage tour. At the end, the crowd joined in – it’s great to feel the audience so into the competition,” said the most decorated Dressage athlete of all time.

Freese makes history for Norway

Isabel Freese wrote history in Basel with her third-place finish – Norway’s first World Cup Final podium. She beamed with pride after her ride on Total Hope OLD.

“Today everything came together. He was light to ride, I really enjoyed it. He was 100% with me and gave me an amazing feeling. This is what we work for every day. I had hoped for a top-five finish, but this is just incredible.”

Fry and Glamourdale dominate in harmony

But it was Charlotte Fry and Glamourdale who reigned supreme. With a Freestyle brimming with power, yet also elegance and lightness, Fry guided the stallion with great finesse to the sounds of iconic British hits.

“Yesterday, Glammie was definitely a little intimidated by the hall, but today he knew his job. He loves to have all eyes on him, and when the crowd joined in, he seemed to love it even more. This is all a team effort – with everyone at home at Van Olst Horses and all our supporters. Everything came together tonight, this is such a special feeling,” she said, still smiling in disbelief at the imposing Les Trois Rois FEI Dressage World Cup™, which stood just in front of her.
